FORUM UPDATE COMPLETE 04 22 2016

Post by johnoly99 »

Hey all.

It's been a while since needing to do this, but we just updated the phpBB installs. Looks good on our end, other than our theme was blown up :( Anyways please feel free to use this topic to post anything you see that's an issue or concern, and we'll check back regularly on it

Thanks!

This will be a little more familiar for most. One thing I see missing is the "View unanswered posts • View new posts • View active topics" buttons on top, another I like is "View your posts"

I always tended to levitate towards the view that allowed me to see a complete list of topics containing unread posts. This allowed me to keep up to date on threads without having to dive down into each category and look for those with updates. The "view unread" link is gone but is there a similar function somewhere that I'm missing?

Click on the hamburger symbol that says "Quick Links" in the top left, then you'll see the new/unread/unanswered shortcuts that you're looking for.

It took me a minute, too.

Good stuff guys. Keep it coming. I'll look into putting buttons up top to make it quicker to view those posts. I'm sure it's doable, it was in the old version, but this had to be a clean slate install, no quick update

Good work. I actually prefer this theme to the black one, TBH...

This is the default theme. With just a few tweaks here and there it can be made a lot prettier and more functional. I did this on my reelsmithing forum: http://www.reelsmithing.com/forum because I wanted to keep it as default as possible for simplicity.

Now we just need a theme that makes it look like MS Outlook :) I've seen this on Reddit before, and it's deliciously sneaky.

I like the update.
Thanks John, keep up the good work.
I like this 'default' layout better than the black one.

Could we get some more theme options again? Before I was able to choose between this one, the black one, and a couple others but I can't find those options anymore. I'm not a big fan of this color scheme, its not very high contrast and for some reason its hard for me to distinguish an unread vs a read topic when there is a mix. The blue/red on black was much easier to distinguish

I agree with everything that Nylocke said plus I see no way to delete a message if it has been posted, the old theme had this option.
My username used to be a bright yellow and now it is a dull blue, I really liked the yellow and now I am in tears. Please wait until I get
a kleenex to wipe my eyes. This theme seems to be going back into the past instead of the future. The old theme was great and if we
added a flux capacitor to the old theme it would fly, this one would go put, put, put. My 64 year old eyes plus the the 9 months I was in
the womb makes this theme difficult for me to read and although some on here would say that is a good thing, I need to be able to read
this forum it is what I live for!

Eagle on my Macs your yellow name was not readable unless I highlighted it... the yellow must display differently on Windows/Macs I guess.

I was going to ask about themes in a new topic before I saw this one. I really liked the choice of a darker theme. The mostly black was much easier on my eyes. This just seems blinding. Is there any way to change the default?

Thanks

Ok, yeah, I like darker themes too. I'll look into a higher contrast darker theme. This is the only theme installed ATM, check back later for more on themes :)

Alrighty guys,

I've installed a few digi themes that are a darker contrast. There's 3 to choose from digi, digi_darkblue and digi_darkblue2. If you guys have any other themes that are 3.1.9 compatible, lemme know and I'll throw them on here :D

All of the old buttons (active topics, etc) still exist but are hidden behind one button press. Look for the "QUICK LINKS" in the top left corner and press that. It will bring up a menu with all the links.

I see no way to delete posts made in error such as this one. I can edit it but there is no delete button

I see the delete icon, but maybe it's because they think I'm a big deal or something. *laughs*

Where do you see the delete button Gene? And I think you may be right it is now reserved for the important members.

Sorry but the delete button does show up after creating a post and someone has not yet read it. So I take it back and owe an apology to John and others.
Things still work, but you may have to really look for the correct buttons and not assume they are not there, like I did.

Is the messenger function a little better now? For a while now, all I've gotten are notifications that my inbox is full and I have to delete old messages to read the new ones. I know it's a little thing, but it's been an annoyance of mine for a while.
