Rambo wiring cross refrence to Smoothie

Post by bvandiepenbos »

I need help with wiring the Smoothie board.
A cross reference to connections on Rambo would be super helpful.
The Smoothie schematic is not very clear.

What part is messing you up? This is the one I went from, but you can wire it up a few different ways for powering the heatbed and hotend. The motors just need to be wired the same way as they are for the Rambo, keep them all in the same order and if they happen to be backward you can flip the direction in firmware easily, or redo the connector and reverse the order. For the you'll be using the MAX positions, You don't have to refit the connector for the endstops, just make sure the arrow on the connector is matched with the S pin (signal). The thermistors don't care what their orientation is so just make sure they are at the position the firmware says.

As for the power, the stepper motors 12-24V power input. If you go by the first picture, combine the wires you had split up separately for the hotend and heatbed for the power into that input. Match the yellow wires to the + input and the black to the - as it is shown on your board.
If you want to keep your hotend and bed on separate power inputs (or voltages/for whatever reasons), I redid the board layout picture to show a little more clearly which power inputs power which mosfets.

The power inputs are the most confusing.
I have 2 power supplies, one 24v for heated bed and one 12v for everything else.
sorry I am still not clear which of the power inputs to use for what.
do I need to put a jumper somewhere depending on where power goes in?
I will study your drawing more, maybe it will become clear.

Also, my board came with endstop plugs soldered to the mins, I suppose that needs moved to max?

Thanks for your help lordblinky

Were you running the bed through an SSR before? If so, you might just keep that setup in place, and only run 12V to the Smoothie.

I had to add in the pins for the endstop max on my board as well.

Where it says 12-24V , that is the power in for your motors, so you'll likely want to use the 12V power wires that were for the steppers there.

You want to put the 24V for the bed on the (my recolored picture) magenta power-in, for the big mosfets P2_5 P2_7. Those mosfets can handle up to 20A if they have extra cooling.

The ouputs P1_22 and P1_23 I believe come from the 12-24V stepper power, if you want to use those.

The small mosfets (P2_4 and P2_6) can handle up to 5A, so you can use them for your hotend whether you want it at 12 or 24V, and know that the power is dedicated to the hotend.

Whichever ones you select is fine, just be sure to set it in the config file. Also, you can use the jumpers to power the colored mosfet pairs, but the issue with that is the limitation of only pulling 2 through the jumpers.

DELETED POST. I was dead wrong on the arm_radius calibration problem I raised. Everything works as it should. I'll chalk it up to having an elderly moment.

I have a lot of those moments also. If you find a cure please advise.

They're the same as youthful moments, except you now have more experience in being wrong.
