DropLit assembly manual [02Oct14]

Here's the first drop of the DropLit assembly guide!

http://download.seemecnc.com/droplit/Dr ... -Guide.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It only covers the complete build. I haven't added the firmware or other portions yet as I'm currently having issues with the controller. :(

Feedback is welcome! Note that this new format is what I'm going to be using for the second edition of the Rostock MAX v2 manual.

The manual looks great! I especially love the pages showing all the acrylic and melamine parts. Very cool.

One things I missed, and I've actually never seen anything like it for the DropLit, is an overview diagram. When built, where does everything go? What moves, what doesn't? What's the light path? What does the whole shebang look like?

In your copious free time,
Dan

Are you thinking along the lines of an exploded parts illustration?

The new kit for the 2nd edition of the RMax v2 manual arrives tomorrow, so I won't be working on the DropLit manual for a bit. I never did get it to move - grbl hangs any time you send a gcode command to it. :(

Well, an exploded parts diagram would be mondo cool and helpful, but I was more thinking of a cross-section showing the light and motion path. Just an outside picture of the thing doesn't really show how it works. (Truly, this should be SeeMeCNC's job; their DropLit page just shows exterior pictures, leaving the inside a mystery.)

... there's an all-new RMv2 coming that needs a whole new manual? Whoa. Looking forward to seeing the results.

It's not an all-new machine. The problem is that there's been so many engineering changes since the first release of the v2, the manual is a bit...schizophrenic. :)

I'm also dropping all the "optional" stuff as there seems to be a large segment of the population that doesn't quite understand what "optional" means and it causes tech support problems. I'll be moving all that into a dedicated chapter.

I especially like the way you show all of the parts and connectors in their bags with great detail.
Another manual well done!

Thanks. I think the parts inventory for each step works well too.

An overlooked step: "installing the carriage", the step attaching the Carriage Plate to the DL Carriage Plate w/ two pan head screws (heads of which are shown in Fig 5-31). Had a student assemble based on version 0.5 of the manual; their absence wasn't noticed until I found a locknut in the vat... :) Hopefully that will eliminate some of the suspiciously uniform waviness of parts on the z-axis. (0.8mm on centers? hmmmm...)
