Eris 1st Layer Density
Eris 1st Layer Density
This is probably an operator error, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get a proper first layer on the Eris. It always prints something that looks like a raft (see below) even though I definitely don't have a raft set in the slicer. Someone care to tell me in what way I'm being stupid?

Stupid? Hardly. Where would the fun be if everything worked right all the time?kwixson wrote:Someone care to tell me in what way I'm being stupid?
Did you check to make sure that a raft was not selected in our slicer?
Re: Eris 1st Layer Density
It could be your Z height calibration where the nozzle is lower than it is supposed to be on the first layer.
Turn on "1st layer only" in your slicer--or cancel after the first layer--and measure the actual thickness. It should match your slicer setting pretty much exactly. If not, you have a calibration issue.

Re: Eris 1st Layer Density
It's not the Eris at all. I'm willing to bet you're using MatterControl. There's some funky setting in there that causes that first layer to be like that. I can't recall what it is though, sorry!

Re: Eris 1st Layer Density
I'm guessing it has something to do with the first layer width setting if it's Mattercontrol. It seems to do some silly things, and has either MM or percent, without an indicator as to which that isn't in the box itself, and no good explanation of how to write it or the default.

Re: Eris 1st Layer Density
That's it! Yes, using Matter Control with MatterSlice slicer you have to set the first layer extrusion width to 0 (just that, no "mm" or "%") and the first layer looks right. Thanks for the lead.Xenocrates wrote:I'm guessing it has something to do with the first layer width setting if it's Mattercontrol.
