Rambo Cool Project ?

Post by enggmaug »

I am thinking about taking the leap to the duet.

Before I do so, I'm trying to see where my beloved Rambo will end up.

Sell it back ? Boring.
Keeping it in a drawer ? Worse.
Make another printer ? 1 is enough to me.

Maybe a plotter, a laser cutter, or ... ? Do you guys have any idea ? Any link to share of what could be made using such a board ? I am looking for something cool.

I have been pondering a small cnc router,,, more like micro. With a cutting area of a business card, or a post it note.

I suppose 10x that size will not be significantly more expensive... Does it have to fit in a drawer? ;-)

I have my Duet in the works. Still debating myself whether to wait for the connectors to make leads for the existing rambo connectors, or to just cut off the old connectors and screw them directly in the terminals... Your Duet will probably have JST connectors on it? Mine is an older 0.6 version.

The possibilities are endless. Remember, the Rambo is just an Arduino Mega with a bunch of useful devices already attached. And you'll probably have the LCD/controls to go with it for an interface. You're not restricted to the home either. Your car has a good DC power source.

Automated Bar. Have it mix up your favorite drinks.
Make your own booze. Saw a hackaday article recently about an arduino controlled micro-distillery.
Home automation. Have it open/close blinds/windows based on in/out weather and temperature.
Robotics. Mechanical arm. Robbie the robot. R2D2. Whatever.
Pinball/game machine.
Sorting machine. Anything from M&M's by color to resistors by value.
Pick and place machine.
and of course all those cnc-type machines you've already thought of.
