Re: Just Remembered Why I Don't Use Matter Control
Looks like the auto level setting was on. I successfully printed one thing after turning it off, then the next print dropped the extruder to the bed, then raised it to home again, and killed the print. I have decent success with Repetier Host using Cura for complicated stuff and Slic3r for simple ...

Just Remembered Why I Don't Use Matter Control
I had John and Steve (and Jim) on my show on Friday promoting Startup Weekend, and they asked if I was using Matter Control yet. I had only used it a couple of times, but stuck to Repetier Host. I'd forgotten why. I just tried using it and remembered. Everything is perfect when I print in Repetier ...

It really depends on the girl. Some like it slow, some like it faster. You should take this opportunity to build your communications skills in the relationship. She'll appreciate your concern for her needs.

Bowties
A buddy just got married, and he loves bowties. I made him three for giggles. The clear one has a gap that allows it to slip over your shirt's top button. bowtie 1.jpg bowtie2.jpg The orange one has a clip (3D printed too) that clips to each side of your collar to keep it in place. I also made him a ...

Wolverine Statue
Another month, and another giveaway for my listeners. This month we are giving away a Wolverine statue.

I'm Batman
Many of you know that I do 3D print giveaways to my audience every month. Last month was a 3D printed Batman bust that I then coated in black sprayable Plasti-Dip. This one was silver ABS, but it was such a popular contest that I printed 3 to give away. The other two were gold PLA, and looked better ...

Re: Leveling problem
I appreciate the advice. Two days ago I heard a bang during a print, and one of the arms broke off. It was just that metal rod that slipped out, but it was doing it on all three arms. I've set the rods back into their proper spot, and reran the tower program. Only the front right dives, and the ...

Re: Leveling problem
I also just tried Mattercontrol's auto leveling function with no success. For some reason, when I print with Mattercontrol using Cura, the extruder is way too high. Haven't tried with Slic3r yet.

Leveling problem
Hey guys, My machine recently started not printing as well as usual, and I ran the tower config file. Turns out it isn't level. Left front is perfect with the center, right front and back both have the extruder diving into the glass. I've adjusted the screws as far as they'll go, and not significant ...

Re: Cura 14.03 Wow!
I've been wanting to move to Cura, but the settings intimidated me a little. I'm just not happy with Slic3r. Might have to try to tackle it again.
Also, how do you get that first layer support on the bottom of the right green vase? I could use that on a couple of my designs.

Google To Release DIY SPhone In January, 3D Print Support
It is a full DIY smartphone that starts off as a simple $50 base that you customize. Google is officially saying you will be able to 3D print parts for the phone. Seems like they are going to release the files for us to do it. Notice, I'm linking to my blog, but story is in the Daily Mail. Lower ...

Purdue Develops Soybean Filament For 3D Printing
Ran across this article today during my show prep. Purdue University students have developed a soybean-based material that can be used for 3D printing. Filasoy, as it’s called, is a low-energy, low-temperature, renewable and recyclable filament, and it’s made from soy, tapioca root, cornstarch, and s ...

Re: Sorry to hear the Maker Hive won't be at Home and Garden
Big crowd at the home and garden show today, and the Orion was a star the whole time I was there. A few people specifically came in to buy a printer before I got there, but hung out until I did to see it in action before ordering online. SeeMeCNC is gonna have a bunch of 953MNC coupon codes coming ...

Re: How do you make something that can withstand the outdoor
Sprayable Plasti-Dip is amazing for weather protection. I use it to customize cars instead of painting them. Protects against the elements, and is completely removable. Not sure if it is right for your application, but I'd look into it. It's really affordable, and you can use the aerosol cans from ...

Sorry to hear the Maker Hive won't be at Home and Garden Sho
I was sad to hear the Maker Hive won't be able to make it to the 95.3 MNC Home and Garden Show on Saturday at the St. Joseph County Fair Grounds. I was hoping to finally link up with you guys. I will have my Orion out there at the MNC booth. Hopefully I can get the printer working right (gaps ...

Ok, I gave your suggestions a shot, and no go, but I think I've found the problem ... just not the solution yet.
The edges of the print are not flush. There's a gap.

Re: Waterproof Vase Prints
Alright, going noob on you guys here.
I'm in Slic3r, and I've opened the configure tool. Is that the right place? I've seen the term EEPROM used, but don't think I've actually messed with it knowingly.

Waterproof Vase Prints
I've printed a waterproof vase before, but I can't seem to do it again. They all have that slow leak out of the bottom. Printing with PLA. Normally I'd just use clear Flex Seal to waterproof them from the inside, but these vase I'm printing now are thin. I read somewhere that making the extrusion ...
