Thanks for replying, turns out I had the cables on the board upside down... I just found this post http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... able#p7035 and the kit I got did not have the housing around the A,B pins that force the cable to orient a certain way.

Hey everyone! I just finished assembling the MAX V2 kit and I flipped the power switch and the LCD screen stayed dark. The fan is running just fine and the green LED on the board turned on but no dice on the LCD. If I plug the A cable onto the B pins the board light up plain blue if that helps ...
