Re: Smoothieboard 2 Progress
Slightly offtopic, but do you know if anyone is working on an arm solution for "desk lamp" type articulated robots, like this one ? RobotArm.jpg I've talked to at least 4 different persons working on adding that to the Smoothie code, but I don't believe any of them have any public code yet. It's ...

Re: Smoothieboard 2 Progress
Is there a way you guys could use opto-isolators, or some other trick, to make it so that we can hot-swap a hot end? If I do that now, I run the risk of burning out the thermistor port. Would be nice if we could do this for manual work (swap hot end with probe, swap hot end with other hot end), as ...

Re: Smoothieboard 2 Progress
As a user with a slightly more than zero understanding of industrial controls (I work with PLCs, and CNC programming), I have an honest question here. If it is unsupported to change it and there is no explanation of it, what actual documentation do you have beyond "This is a thing, don't touch it ...

Re: Smoothieboard 2 Progress
Instead of a differential Step line, I would look at using use a differential Start Move line. Then the same signal can feed all the expansion boards. We plan on having the same step signal feed all the extension boards. The faster one gets the step pulse, the other follow it at a given ratio they ...

Re: Smoothieboard 2 Progress
1. Regarding the segmented/segmentless delta motion, people tend to concentrate on the error at the centre of a segment, which is tiny if the segments are short enough. However, the other factor involved is that at the boundary between segments, the head position has to be rounded to a whole number ...

Re: Smoothieboard 2 Progress
Thanks, I had assumed that was what it was, since it was referenced as "segmentless delta". Also, the mechanical bits of most deltas are going to smooth out most of the movements anyways. Well some people do have extremely well built deltas where this question matters, but what I said applies even ...

Re: Smoothieboard 2 Progress
Would someone explain what you mean by "segmentless delta"? I'm understanding it as the ability of the controller to accept a G2, or G3 command. I was given the impression that it wasn't implemented, in general, because very few slicing programs were implementing "arc fitting" to generate G2/G3 ...

Re: Smoothieboard 2 Progress
Hey everybody, Arthur from the Smoothie project here, with a few comments :) First on the spec, 626Pilot has most things right, except the RAM/Flash : Smoothieboard v2 will have 264kB of RAM, and 8MB of Flash ( I think the values you posted are older ones ). That's 200kB more RAM than what we have ...

Re: Heuristic (AI) calibration for delta printers on Smoothi
or should add a parameter for the minimum move size. That's what other slicers do and it solves the problem completely. I was knee deep in Slic3r's code for part of december, and it takes a lot of care not to do what S3D does. It think any slicer worth the name should do that. Slic3r has a default ...

Re: Heuristic (AI) calibration for delta printers on Smoothi
Arthur, what makes the bug so difficult to quash? (Go full nerd - I've been a software developer for 30 years, I'll understand the write-up. :D ) g. First thing is : it's insanely difficult to reproduce. Same G-code file, same smoothie config, same way to interface it, same firmware, and sometimes ...

Re: Heuristic (AI) calibration for delta printers on Smoothi
Hey. Just a few notes. A work around exists, but the main smoothie firmware dev refuses to accept it, Actually, the main smoothie dev came up with the hacky work around, after a lot of work by a lot of people to try to figure it out. And nobody is "refusing to accept it", it's available in a ...

Re: Smoothieboards unreliable - what new controller to suppo
Working on Smoothie v2 ! https://plus.google.com/u/0/+ArthurWolf/posts/BByuzX2wmkK I have a question about this. In another thread, someone very clever pointed out that you might implement a "Z probe" equivalent by measuring the current to the motors - if they stall, it goes up. I thought I could ...

Damn Arthur you have forum ninja response time syndrome . Smoothie Five-O be profilin' me. There's this button that when I check it, the forum sends me an email when somebody answers. So, blame the forum :) I have videos of the CNC stuff, I might have the original files on a camera SD but I ...

Re: Smoothieboards unreliable - what new controller to suppo
I'm still glad I bought the smoothies, there have a been a few problems with them over the year and a half I've had them but they work great most of the time. I think I'm the only person driving a lathe with smoothie, and I haven't seen any 4 axis TAIG mills with smoothies either. The stepper ...

Re: Smoothieboards unreliable - what new controller to suppo
As for getting upset, I think that's a normal response when you've been 1) shipped a bad board, 2) ignored by the seller, You have *not* been ignored by the seller. The seller has been unable to handle email recently. Those are two extremely different things. If I had access to their email box ...

Re: Smoothieboards unreliable - what new controller to suppo
It sounds like v2 is at least a year away, from what I have heard. We are not giving any deadline for this project ( because last time we did, we got people upset by not meeting it ). What I can say is, we have v2-pro proto boards soldered, we are working on the v2-non-pro design, and have started ...

Re: Smoothieboards unreliable - what new controller to suppo
Brian and all, I also run a small business as you know - http://www.eclecticangler.com - so I know it can be a challenge. But not once in 6 years of operation have I ever not responded to a customer in a timely manner. That's how it's been since the beginning for both RobotSeed and Uberclock, until ...

Re: Smoothieboards unreliable - what new controller to suppo
Due to 626Pilot´s Problems with Uberclock I´m changing over to Duet 0.85 with DuePanel. Not responding to complaints about bad Hardware they sold its a nogo for me and I´m following 626Pilot on that road. I responded here as soon as I was made aware of this post. I would have caught this problem so ...

Not that it matters much now but there has been a few with issues with build quality and lack of response. It might be a small sample overall, but it's a higher percentage on this forums. http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=82&t=8249 How did that story end ? Did you end up with a working ...

Re: Smoothieboards unreliable - what new controller to suppo
As detailed in this thread , I bought two Smoothieboard 5XCs, and one of them arrived with two capacitors improperly soldered. One fell off the board on its own, and the other was so poorly soldered that it peeled off with almost no effort. The other capacitors were all solidly connected, so I know ...
