Re: Invention getting serious consideration...
All I can say at this time is that it was a travel accessory - and as you can imagine, the company will keep it under wraps until it is shown at the first Travel Goods show. And naturally, their design team will make tweaks and improvements before it is finished (which is typical). But I will indeed ...

Invention getting serious consideration...
Just to show you the impact that 3D printed parts have; I just submitted my latest invention to a large Travel Goods company, and they were super impressed with the prototype. And if things go well, we may be starting negotiations for licensing the idea soon. Now, its not that i haven't licensed a ...

Re: Top Surface Flaking off...
I agree the nozzle might be tilted and dragging on one side, but if this was the case, how would you correct this?

Sorry the image is not so great, but you can see the flaking in the right side of the part on the right (I already cut away all the flaking on the the left part. And as you can see, the flaking only happened in one direction.

So I'm making a 2"x1.5"X8.5" box to encase a product prototype I have made. The walls of the box are 1/16th (.o625) thick. Naturally, I sliced the part into two halves (each 3/4" high) in my cad system and turned both halves on their back so that the STL file would not have to deal with an ...

Re: Adhession verses accuracy on first layers...
Wow... I've been running ABS at 90 - so I will try lowering the temperature! I also use the Elmers disappearing purple glue stick - seems to work well. For my latest product prototypes, I have been using rafts with good results too.
Thanks guys for all your assistance.

Re: Adhession verses accuracy on first layers...
It never occurred to me that the bed temperature could cause the problem - but I suppose if the first layer or two stays soft (during the duration of the print) because the bed heat is too hot, then the following layers will be constantly pushing down on the bottom layers and creating elephant's ...

Re: Adhession verses accuracy on first layers...
"Elephants foot" - never would have come up with that terminology on my own! lol But that's exactly what I'm talking about.
Perhaps the tiny chamfer idea on the bottom of the part will be helpful... I'll have to try that. Thanks!

Re: Adhession verses accuracy on first layers...
So is my reasoning off? If the paper I am using during calibration is causing the first layer to be squeezed, I don't want "thinner" paper - that would just lower the nozzle closer to the plate, causing the bead of filament to widen out even more, right? I would think I would want to use thicker ...

Adhession verses accuracy on first layers...
Here's a newbie question for you: Up until now, my first couple of layers on my ABS parts have been wider than the rest of the wall layers, but I didn't mind that because initially I was having trouble getting good adhesion to the glass plate. I felt/assumed that the wider first layers probably ...

Extruder Flow Delay...
So as newbie I have been delighted that my machine works! Made the fans with no problem... but I did notice that when the program began the machine often traveled 4 inches before the filament began to come out of the extruder. This was not a problem for the fans because the program created long lead ...

Re: Endstops reading triggered?
Just so you don't feel too bad - I did the same dang thing. I saw the printing on the image Figure 18-19, (page 190 in V2 manual) and put the end-stop connecters right where there the X Y Z letters were, instead of inside the square. I moved the connectors down and presto! I guess I fell for the old ...

...Or so the song goes! Here in the Northwest most of the innovation seems aimed at software (Microsoft etc..) but a few of us focus instead on inventing consumer products. But let's face, it - using outside venders to make out prototypes is expensive! So I have decided to cut out the middle man and ...
