Re: PEI print bed surface experiments
Also be sure you know where that cloth came from. At one point I was using car detailing paper wipes (WypAll L-40) and nothing would stick. Changed to a "virgin" microfiber cloth, and magically I had all the stick in the world. It almost seemed like the softness of that paper wipe was obtained by ...

Re: Almost fail :)
Huh? Which is what? print from an SD card? Yeah, even when I do that I keep the laptop monitoring it. It's not about control, it's about monitoring the progress when I can't be right there. Prints fail in mid-stream, and not catching them promptly wastes material, time and can damage equipment. So ...

Re: Almost fail :)
bot, not to be rude, or anything, but I had to giggle at you asking if I know the USB can be unplugged...right while I'm reading about USB internals and over-the-wire transactions. :D. The book is this one: http://www.amazon.com/USB-Complete-Developers-Guide-Guides/dp/1931448280/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 ...

Re: Almost fail :)
(Assuming you're asking me, bot) I've found running tethered is pretty essential when setting up to run the print, burn the SD card, and so on. Even when it's running on an SD card, if I'm working for an extended period away, say down in the basement (3D printer's on main floor) for several hours ...

Re: Almost fail :)
Good the hear the print finished despite dire signs. Thought I'd share the configuration I use to help isolate the laptop from adversely effecting a print. Being one of "those" people with too darned many computers, I run both my 3d printer and a CNC router off a dedicated, UPS protected desk-side ...

Re: Little Hangers Killed Print
Sadly, for critical prints (ones I need only this ONE of) the technique I've been using is sitting in front of the printer watching for the offending pieces and snipping them off while the print head is otherwise occupied. Takes timing, to be sure. And it's boring as all heck. But, it's helped make ...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments
...(Now if you can tell me what an HSE plastic is and what an LSE plastic is.... I don't know) H and L SE plastics stand for high and low "surface energy". It's about the number of molecular (van der Waals) bond sites available on the surface of a material. High surface energy plastics have lots of ...

For YOU maybe. Others on this forum, however, might be smart enough to consider the opinions and experiences of others when they are generously offered. It's fair to say that it works fine with the clips' "arms" left intact. The clips themselves are more of a hazard than the arms because they will ...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments
PEI Is in place, I purchased from McMaster Carr the 12x24 sheet and it is thin. The z adjustment made a small dimple and there is an air bubble by an edge. I looked at the order form and it is .003" not the .03" on Amazon. Prints stay down well, but I don't know how long the thin sheet will last ...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments
I've written a lot (in my build thread) about the effect of fast retract / advance with PLA due to its thixotropic nature. I call it "hydraulic jamming" and I suspect it is the culprit that is biting folks. You need a slow advance after retract (20mm/s). If you could do a fast retract and then a ...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments
Ok, ABS sticks to PEI at 80°C fantastically. And, the matte surface of the PEI is transferred to the part so you can get a matte finish if you want! Unfortunately, the spray adhesive I used lets go at 80°C so the parts are not flat. I've been looking for a better bonding solution. The guys on the d ...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments
I read the entire 23 pages too, then I read another 23 pages-worth in your post! Very detailed writeup there, nice job. My PEI sheet seemed to work fine on the first print because I started printing on the matte side AFTER I wiped it with acetone and isopropyl. I'm now experimenting with a huge 14 ...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments
(Ahh....finally account is active and I can reply!) Hey all. I read this entire thread, yes all 23 pages. Thanks for the look back at the progression of trials and sometimes errors. I'm right there with you. Below is a (far too) long retelling of my tales of woe. To sum it up: if your PEI sheets ...
