Re: ramps 1.4 and external stepper driver
Eric, Thank you so much. I get it now it is all about duty cycle. The motor is rated at 10w at 100% duty cycle and nothing melts. But as long as I don't feed to much wattage to the motor to fast. When it is pulsed the pulse is short so it never sees the power for long. So it doesn't melt. Because ...

Re: ramps 1.4 and external stepper driver
Thank you for your reply that was supper helpful. "STEP and DIR are direct connections to output pins on the CPU." I only used the pololu circuit diagram because I couldn't find a graphic of the RAMPS 1.4 that had the pin-out. My plan had been to stick pins from the RAMPS to the off board stepper ...

ramps 1.4 and external stepper driver
Hi all and thanks in adv for any help is appreciated. I got an arduino mega and ramps board (wanted to start off cheep so when I cook it I wont feel bad. I will end up with a rambo or aligator) It is my understanding that the poloul driver clones (A4988) that it came with will operate at 12v and max ...

Re: New to RAMBO a few questions to start.
That does Chang things a little. The max amps for the stepper are shared then right?Earthbound wrote:The dual Z stepper connectors are just that - two connectors on the same output. Z is a single driver with two sets of terminals.

Re: New to RAMBO a few questions to start.
I am not an expert on the rambo but i think the extra z socket has the same output as the z socket. So if you attach a motor it will do exactly the same thing as the z tower motor. Right but if I reverse the coils the motor should go in the wrong/opposite direction. Unless I missed something(I ...

Re: New to RAMBO a few questions to start.
Thank you,
I wanted to know because I want to prototype a large printer with a small frame first but use the same logic controller. I also wanted to know how many filaments in theory I could use with one head.

New to RAMBO a few questions to start.
Hi all, Thanks in advanced for the help. I have been reading the RAMBO 1.3 specs and it looks like in addition to the XYZ and feed 1+2 stepper headers. It seems to have 3 other headers that need external drivers. My question is can you use all of them at once? or is it a choose one or the other? If ...
