Re: Steve's extruder mod/upgrade

I'm not understanding why that bolt has to be tight. On my steve's extruder, which I just switched back to, I just tightened the nut until there was no play and left it at that. It seems to work just fine that way. I liked the overhead mounting of the EZ Struder, but preferred the power of the Steve ...

EZ Struder Micro steps

I have been looking at stepper motor drive schemes and discovered that fewer micro steps result in more torque, and lower temperatures at a cost of less accuracy, and higher sound levels. I have not figured out how to try this theory out. Does anyone know how to switch Rambo 1.1 for double or quad ...

Re: when does my LCD come on?

I have the Rambo 1.1 board with the jumper set to power from the ATX supply. When I power up, the LCD first flashes two rows of white boxes, then briefly indicates the version of firmware loaded in the Rambo board. Then when the boot is complete, the LCD indicates printer ready and shows temps of ...

Re: Hot end jamming fix

Thanks to Part Daddy for the skinny on the EZstruder and Rambo situation. I have been having pretty good results with the EZstruder on small jobs, but the printing of a new magnetic effector plate has been giving me trouble. As long as a large area is being printed, with a steady flow of ABS thru ...

Re: Hot End not heating

Your autotune program will time out after ten minutes if you haven't reached temp. If this is the case the simplest thing is to reduce the s value to something you can get to in time allowed.

Re: Hot end jamming fix

I think the teflon liner acts like heat shrink when it's heated too much. One of my problems has been with the inner liner shrinking in diameter. The first one I replaced, had to have the hot end drilled out to 2 mm. It was hardened as well as shrunk, I never thought to check the length. It would ...

I've found that if I copy files from my download directory to the desktop, they will then be accepted by Repetier Host.
Just curious, are you using a TRS80?

I would suggest trying a new nozzle, or soaking your nozzle in paint stripper/carb cleaner, etc.

Re: Wipe for a Rostock Max?

You can pause the print, raise the Z axis, then resume. Any move that sends Z downward would be risky on a tall print.

Re: Holes on walls printing ABS

I've noticed, on a fan duct I'm trying to print that slic3r makes some strange moves (rapid traverse moves with small dots of printing) at some points in the run and actually makes holes. I don't know if there is some artifact in the geometry that sets it off because I am not too familiar with Open ...

Re: Chains instead of belts on Rostock.

I don't think chains are a good idea on the Rostock, or any printer for that matter. If something malfunctions with the belts, they will skip before causing serious damage. A chain drive might transmit enough force to result in injury to the machine or it's operator if not carefully designed. If I ...

Re: Cork gaskets to make steppers quiet

I would think that with the cork gaskets, you would also need rubber washers on the mounting bolts to isolate vibration. It also would be useful to increase the hole size in the mounting plate for a rubber liner. All this would reduce the security of the mounting but I'm not so sure that would have ...

Re: Hip Tip: Love the stickiness of Glue Sticks

I have had good results with Staple's brand washable in Jumbo size. I just rubbed on a layer, then smoothed it with my thumb and it held ABS down tight with a bed temperature of 70C.

I understand it's closed cell PVC foam board, popular with sign shops etc. One source of black foam board in 1/8" thickness is Tap Plastics. A google search should get you to their website.

Re: steps for ex struder

I noticed a similar condition with the EZstruder when I switched. In my case it was a clogged hot end. ABS was stuck to the lower 3/8 " of the PTFE tube. The use of 235C heat caused the teflon to shrink and harden. I am also seeing a large change in the temperature when the bed cooling fan is ...

IMG-20130402-00004.jpg IMG-20130407-00008.jpg So here are some pics of my MAX, as originally built. My kit came with the wrapper, which I liked, But it seemed awkward to put on and take off. So I tapped all the holes and used nylon screws to attach segments of the wrapper where they could remain in ...

Re: The "Flying Extruder" Mod

If you're using an extruder on the end effector, would you need a bowden tube at all? Maybe a feed device to ensure that there was always some slack in the filament leading to the direct drive extruder.

Re: The "Flying Extruder" Mod

I have to wonder if it wouldn't be better to use counter weights rather than elastic. If they were mounted inside a tube, they might even function as a damper to the "bobbling".
