Using PT100s

Post by TwoTone »

So I keep reading that the general consensus is that these are more accurate.

For those of you running PT100s
My question is how are you mounting one to replace the bed thermistor?
The hotend is obvious.

Honestly as one of the major proponents of it, I haven't (as I consider bed temp slightly less important). However, I believe the center hole of the onyx is ~3mm, so a PT100 may fit as a snug fit. I would likely use a 1/8th end mill, with the heat spread and bed clamped together, then bore in enough for most of the sensor to be in the center hole. The reason for the heat spreader is to ensure that as much of the body of the sensor is inside it as practical. Then I would use thermal paste or epoxy (Pick your poison, epoxy makes it serviceable but you don't need to retain it any more). Then insulate the back of the sensor and whatever is sticking out using silicone, preferably one that isn't so thermally conductive.

However, as I know next to nothing about circuit design, the center hole's plating may be important. I don't know. this is all a guess, so check with Seeme before ruining a bed like this if it is critical.

It's not critical to me, I just assumed people were using a PT100 on the bed as well.

I just receive my AL bar stock, so I'll be making my PT100 Heater Block for the Prometheus V2 this weekend.

Thinking about that, got me to thinking about how to mount on the bed so I asked.

Thanks for the reply, I'll just stick to the thermistor.
