Started the print and come to find out hot end PTFE PEEK was broken. I had a print get ruined last night using Nylon 618 cause the Hot end bumped it. Didn't notice till today that it broke the PTFE tube. I have a new hot end from E3D coming in sometime this week, so it's back to the drawing board. Hopefully it comes in Monday. Is there anything these PTFE that can be improvised with? I know it supposed to keep that area a bit cooler so the filament doesn't start to melt sooner that it's supposed to, to avoid any clogs. But can a brass fitting work?

where did your ptfe tube break?

are u talking about the actual peek? ptfe tube and peek are two different things.

but running your hotend over 240c+, will damage the peek, its just a matter of time. we tried to tell you.

here are my thoughts..the high temp weakened your peek and caused it to break once it came into contact with your printed part.

PEEK. It didn't get damaged from the heat, it bumped my print set it off course and come to find out this morning that it cracked it when it bumped the Nylon 618 print I had going. It wasn't melted. Didn't show signs of melting, but it did crack. I know but I needed the heat. I can't wait for my E3D hot end to come in. I think I had my Z height too low, was causing the Hot End nozzle to bump against the print often, lost a lot of prints that way. What could cause your nozzle to bump the print?

I did readjust my Z lift and seemed to have been working this morning 'till I noticed the goo oozing out the PEEK Joint where it meets the AL block, it's where it cracked. Can a brass fitting do the job of the PEEK?

If it is coming from between the peek and al , you can throw some Teflon tape on the threads to seal it, that's what I did.

No can do, it broke right at the spot where it meet al block. So no thread was left. I did experiment and put it together with some JB Weld but not sure how much temp JB can handle. It's tough as a rock though. Put it back together and it's sturdy. I'm gonna wait for the new Hot End, not taking any more $ chances.

JB weld seems solid but smells funny when it melts. I'm basically saying I tried this with my first hotend and it didn't last more than 1 hour before it melted. I was also printing at much lower temps than you use for the nylon.

Thanks Flateric, that is very helpful info. Fortunately I didn't even try it. Didn't trust the JB weld.

I honestly trust jb weld with much more and more confidence over many years of use in endless trials. But high heat uses are not a strong point for the product.

Oe product that would do the job for you and you may want to stock in your personal inventory is....

ceramic adhesive by DoneDeal (DD6785). It withstand temperatures up to 1400C. Oddly it is in appearace only very similar to JB weld and JB weld stick.

I think what probably happened is your high temperatures caused the PEEK to get brittle over time. Normal use would not cause your PEEK to break simply by bumping into your print, it's pretty tough.

You are right. I was printing at 245 to 255 for some time, must have become brittle. No worries about that anymore, not with my new E3D all metal hot end. I cranked it up to 350 C just to see, not a damn thing burned. Kept it there for about 30 minutes., without filament o fcourse.
