Carriage rods are bent . . . New Rostock Max Build

Post by longshot »

To All:

Need some help. Not sure how to fix this or if this is a common occurrence. There are a total of 6 aluminum rods. 3 on the hot end holder and 3 on each carriage. Most the U joints slip on and move freely on the rods except for 2 rods. U joints stick. I can force 2 of the U joints into place but they will not spin on the rod itself. I've tried different combos but I'm convinced the rods are bent. Enough where the U joints do not slip on easily. My build is very close to completion but I'm stuck with this. Granted both U joints per rod do not need to spin independently but is this a common occurrence?

Step 15.19 says to lock down the rods with 4 sheet metal screws. I can do that but U joints will be spinning with the rod because of how bound up they are.

Do I ask for replacement parts?
Do I open up the U joints by drilling a slightly larger hole?
Do I grind the aluminum rods down where the U joints fit better?
Do I just let it go?

I have no way of bending them straight. . . plus its such a small piece that its difficult to get it back into the right shape.

Please help.
