Is it descending close to the bed first, and then extremely slow? Or is is descending from the homed position extremely slow?
What machine and what controller are you using?
There are firmware parameters for max Z speed of course, but also for probe speed and probe distance. Check those for your firmware.

Hey DeltaCon :)

Its descending from the homed position extremely slow, Rostock V2 with a rambo board. Just did a new install using Repitier Host to get things up and running.

You will have to do a complete recalibration if you do that. Usually it is enough to check the values from a freshly downloaded firmware and compare them to what you have.

Yeah it should all be set as default, just wondering what setting it was. max Z speed might be it?

What are you using to tell it to move? Are you sending G code thru software terminal or asking a program to tell it to move like using MatterControl?

For instance if you send G code using the MatterControl terminal you can tell it what speed you want or let it use its default. The command would be
G0 Z10 to move to 10 mm above the bed at default speed. G0 Z10 F1500 to move at 1500 mm per minute. Which is pretty slow. But then you can try other values.

G0 Z10 seems to be giving me nice speed down to Z10 but for some reason the Z jog controls in Repitier Host seem to be f100*20. etc

Not sure where to adjust that setting. What is the *20 for?

Try mattercontrol instead. I have never used Repitier Host so I can not help there. However mattercontrol does all I have ever needed.
