Effector Tilt

Post by Qdeathstar »

Hi,

I am having an issue with effector tilt which is affecting my printers print quality. Assuming I have a valid method for testing, it seems like the dumb-bells on the seemecnc trucks are not level with the bed.

The bearings in each pair on the effector should be at the same height by design. The bearings on the carriage at the other end of the rods must also be at the same height, otherwise the effector will be forced to tilt when it is close to the tower with that carriage on it. Carriages are typically screwed to carriage trucks or linear rail sliders, and you can usually rotate a carriage slightly about the axis passing through its face to get the bearings at the same height before you tighten the screws.
Because the dumb-bells are not level, the bearings (or balls) are not at the same height, and this is causing? effector tilt. I took some pictures to better explain.

Here is the X axis. The first picture shows the bed, and the level is oriented the same way as the trucks are. The bed is level, but the dumb-bells lean a little bit (i also removed the arms and tested (not pictured) but the result is the same).

I also placed a level on the tower to see if the tower was leaning

Sadly, there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust this. Any thoughts? Anyone experienced something similar? Thanks!

It's strange that they are all off by a consistent amount it seems like.

disassemble one of those dumb-bells-bars and turn them over left to right, so that each ball sits on the other side of the tower. Assemble again and re-measure. If the outcome is different, there is a problem with the balls. if the outcome is the same there is a problem with the injectionmolded skate plate. Ususally there are fittings on them, which prevent the ball-bar from going up and down (no play-room). Are those intact? Even if you turn the screws loose, there should not be any vertikal play. Also check if the position of the tensioned bearing assembly is like in this picture. Seems like some folks assemble the the wrong way around.

Yes, I was going to try to adjust the dumbells but they won't move at all. So they are definitely locked in.

Anyone got a fix for this? Maybe they are bad molds? Has anyone else checked their carriages? I did try flipping them around but it made approximately zero difference, and the one that was correct was the one that was reverse.

Flipping the dumbells had no effect

Hi,

I went the ballistic route and drilled out some of the barbells larger so i could adjust them. I made them all level but it didnt seem to have that great of an effect on effector tilt :-/

So it must be something else...

The chances that the part is bad is pretty small. They're injection molded - if one was bad, a LOT of them would be bad

Yes, i agree. Like i said, i got the barbells level, but got no benefit so i put the old ones back in.

It actually doesn't seem to affect print quality after auto calibration... but its disappointing when your height map looks like a taco when what your really after is a tortilla. :shrugs:

But geneb, do you use the seemecnc carriages and are yours level?

I would assume so as I have no effector tilt. :)

Hard to tell... If you take the tensioner arm out, it will show an angle. If you put in in the molded skate, the angle must follow the housing. I can imagine that some people think the tension will be higher if you reverse it, and it is... it can break.
