New prototype metal effector plates and new Cyclops and Chimera aluminum mounts
Re: New prototype metal effector plates and new Cyclops and Chimera aluminum mounts
I try to read as much as I can, so my bad if someone answered this above...
" Tincho85: Strangely, the values obtained were 30.37mm, which differs by 0.15mm from the 30.22mm that are used by the firmware....."
The values in firmware are production measurements taken from the final injection molded parts. Everything has a tolerance. It's all too easy to lose sight of what's important and what's is not. In this case, being within thousands of an inch part to part is more important than chasing dimensions of the CAD model.
With that said. JJ & I are finishing the v3 and the same exact CAD model on your screen is on our screen. Because there isn't a need to correct the CAD drawing to the actual plastic part in this case. It's more important the acetal ball joints maintain the same center to center distance at the carriage and at the platform. And platform dimensions in the firmware are measured from the final plastic part (reality). Also that arm length is very close between all 6 arms. Then the parallel kinetic mechanism will be accurate and real world values are used in the control.
Now, fellow engineers, I know this will bother some of you that the firmware values are about 0.006" different than the CAD model. But in this case it doesn't matter. You ask yourself during design and production, "is this important? what's really important? will this effect things later?" and more questions depending on the problem your solving.
BTW, nice work on the platform! You won't lose any resolution. The v3 will continue to use the same platform, so I think it's a good move to machine dimensions of the plastic platform. And measure the acetal ball joint center to center distance to maintain the parallel mechanism geometry. I measured over the balls about 59.56mm (NOT center to center). Which is 2.345 inches. I measured many machines for consistency and am within a couple thousandths of an inch.
I would install the acetal ball joints on your platform and make sure the over all dimension is very close to the carriage overall dimension.
well, I've sufficiently over explained this, so I should stop here.

Re: New prototype metal effector plates and new Cyclops and Chimera aluminum mounts
Just an update for you guys. I am starting to run production runs of effectors this week. I am finishing a small batch up today and then we are going to mill the rest of our items for the Detroit Maker Faire this weekend. We have had a ton of custom mill orders come in so I am having to work around those and the Detroit items on the mill to get effectors done. We have over 300LBS of tool plate in house right now in some huge sheets so we will be doing HUGE runs next week. You guys have run through all the stock Fred had made a few weeks ago! Michelle has done a great job on the website and we will be posting the latest updates before we leave town for the Faire on Thursday. If you are at the Detroit Maker Faire this week come by and see us! We will be in the 401 tent area I am told.

If I asked nicely, would I be able to get you to bring along one of those effectors in either red or black?travelphotog wrote:Just an update for you guys. New ball cup style or old axial style? I just ordered screws today so as long as they arrive in time I have no issue bringing things up to the Maker Faire.

Ball cup style please. And about how much are these planned to run? I thought I saw a price in the thread somewhere, but I can't find it looking back now.travelphotog wrote:

Re: New prototype metal effector plates and new Cyclops and Chimera aluminum mounts
As I recall the CFO set them at $40, but if you buy a mount (or already have bought a mount from us) it is $30. So $30 and free hand delivery to the Maker Faire.

Had the cold section fan not been dead[*] on my new e3d, I'd have posted photos of the new rig on Red Sonja.

Guess it would be too lucky to see you this weekend in Detroit?

When do you think the cyclops mounts will be on your site?

I would think by the end of the week. I have a few on hand and will be running more in the next few days. Code Monkey is waiting for the pics from the effectors we ran today to update the website with all the new stuff. So just a few days more. We are trying to get it all done ASAP for you guys!

I won't be at MF Detroit, sorry! (The aliens observing me get really nervous when I travel too much.

Re: New prototype metal effector plates and new Cyclops and Chimera aluminum mounts
It should be sometime this week or next if he keeps to the schedule he mentioned at the maker faire. To be fair, he did have rather a lot of driving to do, and a project that was eating a lot of brain power and mill time (Take a look at his twitter feed, that Folgertech conversion is just a beauty), and given response last time, he likely wants a lot of them pre-anodized. They really are lovely though. I've got a good number of hours with it just dropped in, and the only issues I'm having are because I haven't profiled my filament properly (Or re-adjusted my endstop offsets, for that matter. I'm waiting to do some more work on the printer before I do the calibration). No modification, no recalibration beyond Z height. This is mine printing away on it's first job after install.

Re: New prototype metal effector plates and new Cyclops and Chimera aluminum mounts
We posted the effectors and new mounts to the website last night. Sorry for the delays guys. We have a few dozen in stock right now and are milling more every few days around our custom milling jobs.

Re: New prototype metal effector plates and new Cyclops and Chimera aluminum mounts
Hey would you be willing to share you cad file for these mounts? Im designing a x3 blower fan, with integrated probe mount, for this effector plate. Similar for what i did with the tricklaser max metal mount.travelphotog wrote:
