EZ Extruder over heating on ERIS causing blockage in Bowden tube

Post by kungfudork »

So, my Eris has been printing great but I've been doing prints that run under 90min. Once I started trying to print longer prints I've been getting a strange blockage. The filament just stops coming out, so I assumed the normal puck build up in the extruder but nothing there. Then I realized it was almost impossible to get the filament out of the bowden tube, which seems so odd. I yanked it out and tried to run more prints, same issue.......AND JUST NOW I have isolated the culprit. The motor arm on the EZ Extruder is heating up so much that the inside of the blue knob on it has gotten soft and you can't manually turn the knob. So the filament is heating up at the EZ Extruder and eventually expanding so much that it's actually getting stuck in the bowden tube.

PLEASE....does anyone have any advice to fix this. I've tinkered with printers for a while but never come across this and I'm at a loss for fixes. I hope this is something simple because I've been loving this printer and getting great prints...just small ones..haha.

The similar problem I had was that my retractions were to long, and in my case, the filament would start zig zagging out of the extruder. I also found another time that the filament I was using was junk. It varied in diameter.

If the blue knob is melting from the heat, this sounds more like the current setting you are running on your extruder motor is too high. Try checking your configuration.h of your repetier firmware and look for values similar to the ones mentioned by SeeMe team member, Guanu, in an older post here.
If at first you don't succeed, you're doing something wrong. Try again, and if it fails again, try once more. Through trial and error, one can be the first to accomplish something great.

Thank you! This definitely sounds like the issue I am having! Will post here once I get a chance to try the fix.
