Manual Extrude intermittent
Manual Extrude intermittent
I've been trying to troubleshoot my Rostock Max V2, I've been unable to start a build due to nothing coming out of the nozzle. It's a MatterHackers hot end, which had worked fine up until it didn't. One thing I've noticed is when I manually extrude, there is sometimes a big delay between hitting the button, and seeing the extruder run, and other times it wont run at all. This is with MatterControl, the latest version. Guess I'm chasing down two problems, but it occurred to me that they may be related. Has anyone else experienced this? What could cause it?

Re: Manual Extrude intermittent
There are a few things that easily come to mind. Poor communication between MC and the printer can cause a delay or loss of commands if there is too much electrical noise or a failing USB-RS232 bridge or cable. There is also the potential that the settings for the extruder are incorrect (too high of current can shut down the driver, too low will not turn the stepper motor, a bad steps per MM setting will cause it to extrude too little or too much, and too high a speed setting may cause it to do random things. There may be a blockage, or slipping of the extruder (if it attempts to turn or clicks and whines, or turns freely without extruding).
So to start, does the front panel work to extrude with (I forget if the default one can be used for that, since I've been using a Duet for a while. If it doesn't, use a dummy file on the SD card to test that with.), and does the handwheel allow you to extrude material reasonably easily while at temperature?

Re: Manual Extrude intermittent
Have you had any luck with this? I decided to fire my V2 back up after a while renovating the house.
I upgraded Mattercontrol and the latest firmware for the V2 and I have intermittent extrude too.... You can use the termainal window and do a G1 E100 F1500 to extrude 100mm of filament and this works well. But when I do it in Mattercontrol it extrudes a little, then a little more then a little more and continues doing that for a while.... Weird. Never did it before.
Let me know how you get on.
