Noise from Y axis stepper

Post by pjkoths »

Hello -
I have had my Artemis for about a month and it has performed well.

Lately I have been getting a noise from the Y axis stepper motor. There is a "TIC . . .TIC . . TIC. . . " sound as the stepper moves. I was wondering if this might be motor bearings. There is nothing I can see that might cause the noise - the belt looks okay - no wear.

Any ideas?

Move the carriage by hand and see if you can feel that "tick" in the carriage. Also listen at the turn-around at the bottom of the tower.

The carriage moves freely and smoothly without the belt attached the stepper or turn-around. The noise is coming from the stepper motor and there is also some drag each time it clicks. I believe it is in the stepper motor assembly. I am going to contact SeeMeCNC for support unless you have an idea to fix it.

Thanks,
Pete

It might pay to check the connector from the stepper motor in question to the duet board.

It's possible a contact has to be redone; or is not seated in the housing.
It's also possible the entire connector-housing for that stepper is not seated on the duet.
Also check the color coding of the wires.

Let us know what you find out. I'm getting noise from my y axes as well. It's taken a while for me to track it down but it's in the rail. I have play in my carriage towards the bottom 1/4 of the rail. I may also have some bearing issues as well. The rest of it is fine. Mine's been doing this from the start but is getting worse. I'm getting ready to submit a ticket as well.

I submitted a ticket.
Everything has worked well since I got it a month ago, the click or ticking noise just started with the last print.

All connections are solid and wiring correct. The noise is there when the printer is off or on. Manually moving the Y axis motor while off results with the same noise so on or off the same.

just guessing what to check; perhaps the grub screw is the issue.

On another note, as I am lightly lubricating the linear rails with lithium grease I do see a very small amount of dirt working its way out.
