I have only had, "only" yikes, 2 Rambo board failures and both of those were from the carriage making a unexpected move out of range due to my own inexperience with 3d printers and causing the resistor leads to short through the head and send the high voltage back to the board. Through the thermistor ports.

Since using the heater cartridges, I have not had any issues, I also noticed that they do not seem to crumble or in fact show any signs of wear even after multiple different hotend mountings and un-mountings for testing.

I also very much enjoy the 1/2 meter long leads they come with that allows you to get all connections and plugs away from the space cramped hotend.

I'll never go back.

No offense taken, all is well. I just thought the explanation was warranted. I hate to pick on the seemecnc guys, as the design and customer service is top notch. I was just frustrated that in order to explain the reason why I did what I did I would have to knock the original method. I did notice they sell the cartridges now, perhaps new kits are going out with them?

Unless I am mistaken, the cartridge heaters are a very recent addition to the marketplace and were not available as an option or even known of at the time of shipping. I can't fault them either for going through their stock on hand and transferring over to cartridges as it becomes possible for them.

I also just recently recieved my thermistor cartridges finally. They also have many of the same benefits as the heater cartridge. Durability being the biggest, followed closely by not easily shorted out. They are also metal clad and come with long leads. They have a spec temp range of -40c to +420c. So a really nice big fat temp range as well. My only fault with them is that they should have made them the exact same size as the heater carts. They look to be 1/2 the size so a little fabricating and adjustment is going to be needed for use.

I was also mistaken about the temp range. It's better than I stated. It goes from -20 to +450c.

After talking to another one of our members MHackney, these type of thermistors must go through some sort of amplifier before they can be used on a 3d Printer.
If someone knows more about these types of thermistors, please let us know.
