RMV2 - Control knob half-works

Post by ExplodedZombie »

Hi everyone. I'm back.

A few months ago I got my printer finally, after 2 years, nearly printing well. It was almost awesome! Then the SD card stopped working. So I swapped out to a new LCD and updated the firmware. The SD card worked...ish, but it set my origin to a weird setting so that the nozzle just crashed into the plate over and over. Nothing I did fixed it. So I reverted and now: my control knob only presses in. The LCD screen looks fine, some menus even work, but the knob only allows for pressing in, not rotating. Swapping the ribbons just causes the screen to go blank or show crazy stuff. Anyone ever experienced this level of hell I've been going through since purchase? :(

Edit: I used Mattercontrol to look at the EEPROM and it says there is none loaded, but I successfully uploaded the Repetier Firmware. Can't find instructions online that mention it as a separate process.

Anyone interested in a RMV2 in the San Francisco Bay Area? This thing is ridiculous if you don't have the time :(

Sounds to me like it has the wrong DEF's for the Atmega I/O pins. But I'd start with the EEPROM settings. IIRC, Gene has a nice section in the manual on how to do it.

Oh, how I feel your pain... :) About all that is original is the AL 2020 extrusions and the MDF.

At the moment, automatic bed leveling using the FSR's is all but useless. I have a Delta Smart Effector on its way to the house. We'll see how it does.

If you're having problems with the FSRs, it's probably how you've installed them. I've got three v1s with FSRs (two with Duet 0.8.5s, one DuetWifi) and they all perform flawlessly.

Maybe, but getting things aligned where you can't see or measure them is always going to be tricky. I'm a controls guy, I usually leave the the mechanical stuff to the Arts and Crafts guys (Mechanical Engineers). :)

But I've got the milled aluminum sockets and plungers from 713Maker installed, as well as fresh FSRs and silicone pads in all three corners. You can clearly see the nozzle slide on the glass to one side before the the FSR triggers on the Y axis. And I currently have the X and Y plungers floating to reduce any side forces. I also tried a tiny bit of lubrication between the plunger and the socket. Better, but not good enough.

I'll have the Delta Smart Effector here in a few days, we'll see how that does.
