Print and Make Money

Do you print/build/make/create 'stuff' for modifying SeeMeCNC machines? Post them here if you do so others can see and inquire about getting them!

I don't know if this will go anywhere but you can post a listing here and print on demand for people.

I am actually stunned, but this site works!

I have been getting a surprising number of people contacting me to print things for them.

I live in an city that's very oil based economy wise and some of the things people want printed and the amount they pay for it surprises me.

I yesterday printed out a piece that looks similar to a camera shoe for a tripod. No idea what it is really for, but I got $100 bucks for printing it and the guy says he may want 10 more of them at the same price as long as I can do it VERY fast just like I did this one for him.

I intially told him a really cheap price and he insisted on paying more because of my prompt delivery and communication. Saying he appreciated the way I was so quick.

Sign up guys, seriously can't hurt right? Just be sure to follow throough, reputation is important.

I signed up and got my first order within an hour. Looks to be some type of phone or ipad holder. $12.01. Not off to a bad start. It was a friend on FB, but still not a bad start.

I emailed nathan who is building the site. He's open to suggestions. I recommended allowing prices based on print time/weight of plastic used.

It's also not clear if the volume being charged is the volume of filament used or the volume of the object being created (x*y*z).

There are a few things I would love to see, such as a "reputation rating" that the customers could rate the people printing with. This would help to show who is seriously working to meet orders and who is just posing. Perhaps a system similar to the ebay rating system, shipping, communication etc things like that.

So funny, I posted this when I saw the site and no one has contacted me. Must be because I don't have the right colors. LOL

Once I get my Rostock running right, I might throw my name in there. Id be the only one within 100miles of my area with a printer larger than 8in builds.

That's really odd. He's always been responsive to me. I've sold two projects through there.

I guess I asked unanswerable questions - like how much to charge for setup - when a CMsquared might accomodate for machine time but not trial and error....

Haha I still actually want to, ya know, GET a 3D printer (I have access to a laser cutter... maybe I should get started on that...) but I'd be the only guy within roughly 200 miles with an actual printer. Guess living in a small town has its... potential advantages...

Just for kicks, how much do you think it would be to make a rostock if I had access to a laser cutter? I'm thinking around $350 for hardware and electronics, and then plastic. But I'd have a 3d printer!

SeeMeCNC sells a "Bring Your Own Laser Cutter" kit. But the three pieces of fiberboard are not the expensive parts.

I actually kept looking around and just found that :D
Maybe I'm better off building a prusa or mendel. The overall largest expense seems to be the plastic, hardware (extruders!), and the circuit boards.. Ouch.
Anyways, I'll work it out eventually. Just not today!c

I just emailed a guy here in Spokane. I need 7 or 8 parts printed but I have 2 CNC machines to build so I don't have the time to buy a printer yet. I read all the problems people have and I wonder how long it will take to set a printer up. It took me a month or so to get my CNCs calibrated. I will let you know how this goes. Looks like it will cost $150.00 to get these printed. There small parts.

I've been through the same process timeline as you it sounds. CNC's first then printer.

Don't want to discourage or anything, but printer is far more difficult to get just "perfect" But then I may be pickier than most.

PICKYYYYYYYYYYYYY ----- I am so picky that if its not perfect, I don't sleep till it is perfect. I think I have seen every 3d printer out there below $20,000.00 & the Orion is the coolest one out there. When I have the time I want one to teach my youngest soon how to use CNCs & 3d printers.

The Orion is a good choice to minimize your calibration phase and get you on your way good and quick. No doubt about it.

Highly recommended.

I saw the guy today about my parts & the cost is $115.00 for all 7 parts, 4 Nema 23 Standoffs, 2 X Axis bearing holders & 1 Y Axis Bearing holder. I thought that was a bargain.
He also has a webcam so I could watch them being printed.

Eventually I plan to put myself up on the list, but I always seem to find some other maintenance or upgrade to take up my time with, it's hard to imagine me ever having time to take someone else's orders.

Heh, I put a profile up, to see if I could find an excuse to buy a second printer. :-)

Unfortunately, there are alot of other printers in Southern California.

That being said, I've gotten 4 requests in the past 4 weeks:

- #1, request for quote for onsite printing, 10, 10 hours days. some type of fair or conference or something, I declined.
- #2, request for quote for someone's high school project. The model could not be sliced. too many issues with the STL that I couldn't correct.
- #3, request for quote for some type of doo-hicky. never responded to my quote.
- #4, request for quote for a printed handgun receiver. Hoping it was just a question. I provided a quote as requested, then declined the job.

That being said, would any of you accept a job to print these stupid gun parts?
