Dual Extruder
Igot my rostock max with dual extruders but found that I can not mount both. With both mounted the extruder tips will not go through the opening in the platform. If I assemble the extuders around the platform then the 1" supports won't fit! I was thinking I could go to a 1/2" support but will I slam the extrder tip into the hot plate because the tip is lower?
Re: Dual Extruder
I'm not too savvy, but I suppose you could, I believe there's a setting for offsets for dual extruders. I've only ran 1 though, but hopefully that can get you started.
Re: Dual Extruder
You're really digging into uncharted territory, haven't seen more than 1 or 2 people that even attempted dual extruders yet. Maybe try contacting SMCNC support
(No trees were killed to post this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.)
Re: Dual Extruder
I started my addon extruder this evening. So, here nwe go! LOL

Re: Dual Extruder
I too purchased the add-a-struder kit for $175 (not sure why it's soo much when you can purchase the extruder w/motor & hotend for $110, so you're paying $65 for a couple pieces of laser cut wood?).
Anyways, I digress... The part I am really upset about is that they don't tell you that you are going to have to find a way to make it work yourself. I was under the impression that the Rostock MAX was setup and ready to go for a 2nd extruder. I got both of my extruders put together and then went to mount them and was like WTF?
I understand in theory it should work, but I haven't found a decent way of mounting them yet - the barrel around the hotend is too large to mount next to the standoffs, and taking the standoffs out and trying to mount them underneath puts the hotend barrels just way to close to eachother (ie: touching in my situation).
Any ideas?

Re: Dual Extruder
Check my thread about dual extruders as I will be updating it fairly regular the next few days.
I successfully bench tested all my dual-truder parts yesterday. (meaning out of the machine....they didn't know that though)
I was able to get it all working together with repetier firmware, kiss and the ad a truder kit from seeme. I printed a dual hotend carriage I found on thingiverse. I still suspect it would not accomidate 2 stock hotends however.

Re: Dual Extruder
I noticed your other thread this morning before I made my post above. I too have both extruders working out of the machine, it's the getting them mounted that I'm concerned with. Unfortunately at this point, I don't have a machine running to print a new mounting bracket for the dual heads, even if it does work. I guess I'm just going to go back to a single extruder and write it off as a loss... Perhaps I can use the extruder for a different machine in the future.

Offer to pay someone to print what you need. Someone will probably do it for you if you have the files. I would do it but I cannotoeginc wrote:I noticed your other thread this morning before I made my post above. print yet either, but soon I hope! There must be something on Thingiverse that would work for your dual hotends.
Re: Dual Extruder
Or you could put it back together with a single extruder and hot end to print what you need. You still have all the parts, right?

Re: Dual Extruder
can you post a pic of this, you have to use to shorter spacer due to hotend design. then readjust your z height once you have it installed.Tanks-A-Lot wrote:Igot my rostock max with dual extruders but found that I can not mount both. Is it possible to get the dxf for that mount?
There should be enough scrap left from the leftovers to mill it myself

Re: Dual Extruder
Nice job! what are the gear shaped cutouts for?
Re: Dual Extruder
The gear outlines are the Open Hardware logo.

Re: Dual Extruder
Cool! Can you share the link for the file? Any tips on working/setting up the duals? as I plan on working on it this weekend.
Re: Dual Extruder
not to sound like a salesman here. but i could make these in aluminum so it acts as a heat sink to the hot ends also.
mine gets fairly warm at printing temperature, using a fan with heat sink mount will help dissipate the heat off better.
if you want to make one yourself here is a dxf file for mine.
