Advice on Slicer Settings?

Post by oxident »

I have a new Rostock Max and am having trouble printing a nice calibration cube. There are gaps between the walls of each object I print.

I am using Slicer (v0.9.9), Repetier-Host (v0.85b) and the settings suggested in the "Rostock Max Assembly Guide" (v1.17).

Printing 1.75mm ABS at 240˚C onto Kapton covered Glass HBP at 110˚C.

Here is an image of how the prints are turning out.

Larger picture please. Quick advice, do a search for calibration here on the site. There are several very good guides already available. A picture after going through those steps will be easier to diagnose.

Here's a better picture. I'm also new to the forum. Can you point me to some of those good guides that you have mentioned?

Thanks

Well to start with you're extruder is skipping, either losin steps or slipping in the extruder.
What layer height are you printing at the top of the cube looks like it's too high for the nozzle diameter, but it could also be just filament starvation from the slipping filament.

I'm using a 0.3mm layer height with a 0.5mm nozzle. I'll have to look into the filament starvation issue. It consistently feeds fine when I manually extrude.

In order to find articles containing "calibration", enter Google and type in the following:
site:forum.seemecnc.com calibration

Google will then search this forum for the word "calibration"
Happy reading and welcome to the forum!
If you have access to some tiny metric drill bits you should also verify that the nozzle
is indeed .5mm It is rare but some Rostocks were released with .7mm diameter nozzles.

The Google trick mentioned above is the right way to do this. I wonder if the seemecnc guys could create a google custom search and put it in the header of the website? That would help :)
