Home button on repetier = bad move

So I thought it would be a good idea to hit the home button on the repetier host software when I was calibrating my rostock but it was a BAD move.
It appears to home the x-axis first and since it was near the plate it jammed into the rail and just kept going because the limit switch is at the top = a lot longer distance than the rail
1) Is there a way to get the repetier home button to act like the home on lcd???

Also In the mad dash I got snagged on the thermistor wire for the hot end and it pulled out
2) What should I use to clean the RTV out of the little hole to reapply the themistor?

Did you hit the home button that has the "X" by it? That will home the X Axis only and that generally is a bad idea in most cases. There is a home all button that doesn't have an X/Y/Z axis by it and I use that button to home the machine all the time with no issues.

I was able to clean mine just with acetone and a xacto knife. It came out pretty easy really. There is a commercial dissolver too: http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-80652-RT ... +dissolver but it might be overkill for such a small amount.

It depends which firmware you're using.

Marlin firmware will do what you're describing and make the printer try to self-destruct.

Repetier firmware does the right thing for all four home buttons (X, Y, Z, and Home). X and Y will move to the center of the corresponding axis without moving the head up or down. Z will move all three carriages up together without moving the head horizontally. Home will move all three carriages up together then center.

I'm using the marlin firmware AKA self destruct mode... does the repetier firmware have support for the lcd screen as well? What the difference between them?

SeeMeCNC is now shipping the kit with repetier firmware now. That should tell you something.

Motion is smoother, and I haven't had my printer try to self destruct since I made the switch. Yes, it's configured for the LCD, which is what motivated me to switch.

I haven't had my printer try to self destruct since I made the switch.

I've only caused that "oh @#$%" moment once with Repetier firmware and it had nothing to do with the firmware, it was the keyboard actuator. I was making my print radius larger, and reached the point where the cheapskate bearing hits the top deck of the base

Yeah, I had that happen with Marlin, but I haven't tried it with Repetier because I had just put on new belts and didn't want to chew them up right away by testing that.

That should be easy enough to avoid by adding a sanity check in the firmware. I may get motivated to figure out a fix for it soon.
