New to the 3D printer club

Post by lordbinky »

Good news everyone,

You just read the first sentence of my first post.

I just wanted to give an introduction before I start spouting out madness filled nonsense or impractical solutions so you guys have an idea where I'm coming from.

I ordered a Rostock Max last week (Which I had bookmarked directly and missed the whole maker faire week off front page note  ), so I'll begin my 3D printing adventure sometime next week when that comes in. I'm really excited about getting it, setting it up, working out all the kinks I reasonably can, and then undoing all that effort with mods, rinse, repeat. While I enjoy KISS philosophy for my work designs or anything safety related, it typically gets in the way fun designs so that'll go out the window after I get my head around things. Keep in mind that I haven't recieved it yet so my initial ideas may die at the sight of reality, but until then I hope I'll be sharing interesting things in a month or two.

As for things about me specifically that might be useful in dismissing my posts as absurd, I'm an electrical engineer for hoists at a mine in an extra forsaken part of New Mexico. I enjoy controls engineering and sadly my job involves little design for at least 5 years, so between this and programming, I hope to keep my drive in check.

I look forward to interacting with all of you and joining the community, so hopefully (for me) you'll be seeing more of me.

Quick you can still get out, it's not too late! Run I say! Run away!

Once your in, your never out, the only way out is through a unfortunate 3d printer related fatality type scenario.

What? Never ever heard of this happening?

Think about it.......

Now you know how hard it is to get out. No one is ever out. And since we build our printers kinda flimsy and of wood they cannot kill! It's a vicious and evil circle with no escape!

R_U_N!

See, you read this far now it's too late and you don't know it yet but your second 3d printer you WILL purchase one day is already allocated and ready for you.

You just don't know it yet.

So, welcome.....what was it like out there? In the real world? The place where there isn't the slight aroma of burning plastic always just ever so slightly hanging in the air.

I can't remember....

LOL

Perhaps I should just buy another 3D printer and stop thinking about it. It seems I have always wanted this other one.....

I almost forgot, something I will never understand and need to warn you about is you will get the oddest urges.

To print many different types of twisty Vase and boxes....

But ever odder yet, you will yearn to print Yoda!

Yes, yoda, no-one knows why, but there has never ever been a 3D printer in existence EVER that has not printed atleast 1 yoda!

Weird, laugh if you like, but you'll seeee!

What ethereal entity did I piss off?! I know they are traveling and limited shipping, etc. so I know why... but the extra parts for the Max I ordered went to shipped status before the Max kit is, so I’ll have random 3D printer parts to look at without a 3D printer. What a cruel fate….

It's an eventuallity you cannot avoid.

Even if you have never printed a yoda, your printer has without your knowledge.

LOL

Or it will.................
