EZStruder top mount brackets
I have just posted up a top mounting bracket and spool holder for the EZStruder. Boy am I glad to clean this up and get rid of the OEM mount hanging off the side.
You can purchase it from Trick Laser
http://www.tricklaser.com/EZmount-KIT-f ... MNTKIT.htm
We are calling it the EZmount.

I can't quite tell from the photos. Does this aim the bowden tube outward between two columns?

Where did you route the extruder stepper wiring?

Re: EZStruder top mount brackets
My intention is to make a bracket that will hold a dowel or arrow shaft to a tower extrusion so I can use it as a "trellis" to snake the wire around and up to the top. two brackets (top and bottom) should do it. It'll stick out just enough to keep the Cheapskate from striking it.

You mean print a bracket, don't you Gene?
I keep forgetting we can make parts with these things.

Re: EZStruder top mount brackets
That's exactly what I meant.
Brian was kind enough to send me the data needed to cut the parts needed and I'll be doing that later today. I'm within probably an hour of construction before my "build" is completed. (The build/photo/write process adds a LOT of hours to the project)
When I get the parts cut, I'll post pictures.

You should just setup a few webcams and go find the stills you need later. Maybe wear a helmet with a GoPro for the POV build process

Just temporary right now, motor wires are just hooked over top idler spacer, hanging down outside one of the columns. I plan on running them down extrusion slot covered with some metal trim... http://www.tricklaser.com/T3-Trick-Tslo ... 3-TRIM.htm
Yes, the extruder mounts angling down to make the bowden tube bend in a spiral on it's way to the hot end. I will post better pics later this weekend.

If you use a tube why not rout wire inside tube instead of snaking it around outside of tube?
Guess you might have to cut off connector to fish it in tube depending how big a tube you use.
Instead of making a bracket drill a hole in top plate near outside edge and one in table. locate near Rambo so wires can go right to it. I do not have my machine here at the office, so it might not clear the cheapskates and arms or platform.
just thinking out loud.

Re: EZStruder top mount brackets
I've actually got a head mount for my GoPro. The heat death of the universe will occur before I appear in a photo while wearing it.
Brian, i wanted to avoid hacking on wiring if at all possible.
What about a wire trellis that had tabs that would fit in the extruder mount holes in the base and clip up at the top on the outside edge of the top. That position should make sure there's no danger of interference with the cheapskates to either side.
I got as far as importing the DXF files into Coreldraw for cutting, but got side tracked in finishing the Orange Menace.

Re: EZStruder top mount brackets
Brian,
Do you offer the EZStruder top mount brackets as an upgrade on the assembled kits you sell? Also, would you recommend against buying the 4" add on height if wanting to add the EZStruder top mount brackets? Thanks.

inventabuild,
sure the EZStruder top mount will work with our "TL" or "Tron" styles but not the tri-force frame... yet.
I see no reason the added 4" height would be a problem with top mounted EZStruder other than you may need a bit longer bowden tube. Also, the spool on top adds 9" above top plate so make sure you have enough ceiling height.

However, I do like BrianV's design for our new EZStruder and his spool mount. They are industrial looking, heavy duty, and well designed. Like everything BrianV does over at tricklaser.com, you will find his work detailed and perfect.
My favorite upgrade Brian offers for the Rostock MAX are the carbon fiber arm kits.

Re: EZStruder top mount brackets
Brian, is your design open source, or is it proprietary? I just joined a maker space last week and this would make a great first project for the laser cutter. If you're not comfortable with sharing, that's fine too.

They're practically neighbors.
(I prefer Brian's design myself - the 45 degree angle of the extruder mount appeals to me for some odd reason..oh I know! It's 'cause I'm bent too. *laughs*)

we designed it to be "EZ" and versatile. Did you know it can now also hold 4" wide spools, like the ones from Rainbot3D.
Did you also know that we offer the spool holder separate from extruder mount, that way you can have 3 spools stored on top with one extruder for quick color changes?
Being tucked up high and at a angle really works well so the bowden tube spirals to hot end.

Re: EZStruder top mount brackets
Neat. I'll have to cut a new base plate for the spool mount (I'm assuming you just widened the plate that the spool uprights fit into?) when I get a chance.
I still haven't had the time to sit down and design a bracket that would hold an arrow shaft or a tube to act as a wire guide for the stepper motor.
