3D text suggestions

Post by wshelley »

Hello all. Been lurking for a bit and have a Rostock Max up and running reasonably well; I can print a hollow calibration pyramid in PLA that is very acceptable. I'm trying to add some raised letters (.5mm tall) to a small collet organizer and after trying some samples I come looking for suggestions. Until I hit about 10mm tall (the font size not the Z height) text the end result is pretty weak. The width of the strokes on the 10mm test are about .85mm wide, the 7mm directly above it are about .75mm (both as printed). I assume the issue is with the width of the strokes used to make the characters vs the nozzle size and single line extrusion of .55mm?

Any suggestions on a better method?

Are you cooling your print area with a fan? Retracts?

Which slicer are you using?
How does the model look in Repetier Hosts preview window.
Posting the model would probably help people help you in this case.

I am using KISS, prime 10, suck 10, wipe 5, 190 temp, 55mm/s, min jump 1.5, trigger 5mm, Cooling fan is on after first layer, bed temp is 60. I've attached the stl file as well. I appreciate you taking a look. I ran another print this morning with fairly large text and it came out ok. The preview in repetier looks a little better than the final result, I didn't expect the 3mm or 5mm to come out great but the 5mm at least looked like it would mostly print.

I looked at your file with Netfabb, and it indicates that it will not print properly without repairs.
I recommend that you run your STL files through Netfabb and let it perform a repair before attempting
a print. I only takes a few seconds to do this but can do wonders for your prints. Even things I get
from Thingiverse I run through Netfabb and it finds and fixes bad ones.
