Getting overheating problems on first 8mm of print layers
Getting overheating problems on first 8mm of print layers
I am getting some discoloration and obvious signs of overheating when I print ABS for the first 8mm worth of layers. Above that point, the prints start looking pretty nice. The heat bed is not getting over 100c when I print. I suspect it is radiated heat from the largish surface of the stock print head. Agree? What do you do to alleviate this problem? Printing at 125c at the head or so.

Search in the forum for proper temps, ok?

If it's ABS plastic, 225 is close to right, too cold to burn it I would think. If it is PLA then that temp seems high. Have you verified the value you are seeing for the hotend is actually the correct temperature?
Another thing worth trying to test the theory would be to use ABS juice or hairspray on your bed and lower the temp to 80c. You'll get plenty of adhesion.

Can you post some pictures?
Unless the bed is really hot I can't imagine how something could affect just the first 8mm.
