Nema 17 Stepper Motor

Post by grasshorse »

Hello

I've been trying to troubleshoot a motor I recently purchased for the EZStruder. It is a very similar model that comes with the Rostock Kit but it has different wiring colors. I cannot seem to get it to function properly. The part number is Wantai Motor 42BYGHW811P1. I checked the Wantai website as well and they didn't have any documentation for this motor either. The 42BYGHW811 is wired as such Black (A), Green (C), Red (B) Blue (D). The wires for the 42BYGHW811P1 are Red, Green, Blue, Yellow. Red and Green have continuity and Blue and Yellow have continuity. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate them.

All the Best,

Steve

Connect one continuous pair to pins 1 and 2. Connect the other pair to pins 3 and 4. When you test the extruder, if it spins backward, reverse either pins 1 and 2 or pins 3 and 4 (or invert it in software).

The RAMBo connection guide is here. http://reprap.org/mediawiki/images/8/8b ... n-main.jpg

I should have known to check the updated Assembly guide. That said, I follow that wiring pin out from the assembly guide and the motor just bounces back and forth. I hook up the old style of motor and it works fine. I assume that a machine should be able to use both styles of motors right? Is there a config I have to do?

Thanks,

Steve

Ok, real weird. I took out the extension and it worked fine... but I had the other stepper plugged into the same extension. I noticed that the old stepper had shorter wire. Could it be that the wires are just too long and the voltage is dropping enough to cause havoc? New stepper and extension is like 6 feet, old stepper and extension is like 5 feet. I'll try and sort it out.

Wanted to thank folks for not jumping on my case for making a posting in Troubleshooting something that was the exact same issue lower on the page. My bad.

I did get the new motor to work. I shortened the extension by a foot and it worked. So my cable run isn't as nice, but the EZStruder works!

Thanks again for all of the help.
