Looking for an E3D Hotend in the US

Hey guys. Anyone have an extra, used E3D hotend they would like to sell here in the US? I'm not looking forward to the 3 week lead time and shipping across the pond. Thanks!

I would strongly advise against it, unless the new designs are shipping, but you could look at the MetalMagma by trinitylabs. If your willing to wait a bit the SMCNC fellas are working on a design of their own as well.

From my reading on the reprap forum, the new designs are shipping. My current hotend is toast (literally) so I'd like a new one soon.

I've decided on an all metal hotend so I can reliably print nylon.

I like the looks of the MetalMagma, too bad it's sold out...

do not get the metal magma.

1. there having shipping problems, orders aren't getting fulfilled. poor customer service.
2. the magma is having problems. even though there is a fix. your gonna be waiting.


3 weeks is not long wait, you will probably wait just as long on trinitylabs to get your item. but at least ed3 guys have better customer service.

The e3d hotend is currently a much longer wait than the 3 weeks listed on their webpage.

I sent them an email about my order I placed over 6 weeks ago and got the response that they are sorry about the delay in shipping orders, I should expect a free gift when my order is finally fullfilled.

Soooo, not sure what that means.

I thought the metal magma was 3mm only?

Hmmm, sounds like SeeMeCNC needs to hurry up release their all metal hotend . Everyone else seems to have supply issues.

I really want to avoid any plastics in the hotend, and all my filament is 1.75mm so 3mm is out.

I'm sorry let me clarify, I do not recommend the MetalMagma. I just re-read what I wrote and it sounds like I am advising against the E3D, I am not. I do not own one. I do own a MetalMagma (aka pretty turd) and I choose not to elaborate on the horrific experience at this time.

Flateric: I don't know if you visit the reprap forums, but there is a rather lengthy discussion about the E3D and the issues they are working through. If I understand it all correctly they have a new design and are working on it now. I believe they no longer are shipping V1.

If you frequently print PLA I wouldn't recommend any of the all metal hot ends unless you are willing to swap hot ends when you do, I have both the E3D and a MetalMagma.
If you just print ABS/Nylon and other plastics, I'd recommend the E3D, I like it a lot for that purpose.
The closest thing I am likely to do to a review is on my blog.

At this point I'm unconvinced all metal hotends are a great thing if you print a lot of PLA though I'd like to see a design that makes me change my mind.

Just to say that we infact shipping. All of the hotends that are owed to people from their orders with elapsed lead times have shipped. There are a few left to ship from people whose lead time has not yet passed. We are genuinely sorry about the whole mess with delays of preorders. It was just a perfect storm of bad luck that stopped us getting parts away in a reasonable amount of time.

We will be moving to immediate shipping of all orders in the next week or so.

Regarding the PLA in the E3D hotend thing, in honesty this is really quite confounding for me. All I ever print really is PLA, day in, day out, I print over a kilo a week, and I of course run an E3D hotend. In fact the hotend was originally designed around PLA from the outset.

I have lots of very positive feedback from people who are printing PLA without any problems on the hotend.

Nonetheless there are sporadic reports of people having jamming issues with PLA on our hotend. The percentage of people experiencing problems is well below 1%. It certainly appears to be a manufacturing issue.

I have had a great deal of discussion with polygonhell about getting him running with PLA with him giving me loads of useful feedback - and have shipped him new parts. However he still seems to be having some sort of issue. Whether this is just terrible bad luck and I have managed to ship him parts that are bad in some way twice in a row, or if there is some perfect storm of his setup and our hotend that is resulting in this problem I really don't know. Polygonhell is obviously a very capable user and has gone to great efforts to troubleshoot things, and has had some success. However I still cannot figure out his exact problem - it's really quite odd.

What I will say, is that if you buy a hotend from us, and it doesn't perform correctly with PLA I will absolutely replace or refund you.

First I should say that I love the E3d hotend and use it for everything except PLA, then I switch to a J-head. I've found that I can get the E3d to work, but the extrusion force for PLA on my E3d is too high for the direct drive Ezstruder, and my geared drive extruder more easily chews up ABS, so its either swap the hotend or the extruder.

Could you explain why Flateric's point isn't an issue with PLA sticking to the stainless heat break in the E3d?

By the way, when you print PLA are you normally using a bowden setup? I've found that the retraction required for the bowden is often an instigator of the problems I've had.

I'd love to have one hotend/extruder for everything, so if I can get the E3d to work on PLA without issue, I'd be very happy.

I can testify of the quality of the E3D mounts, I purchased two of them and they work perfectly! You can print these to your heart's content
but you can never beat the durability of the aluminum mounts! Well worth what Cambo3D charges.

If only it was that easy. I have an original H-1. I'm afraid the hotend with the fan duct isn't going to fit inside the bearing blocks. I have yet to find a good solution short of new bearings and mount.

Is he still making these? I just bought an E3D and read the reviews of his stuff. Top quality from what I read.

I saw in another post that he stopped making custom aluminum parts.
I tried to PM him, but I don't think my PM's are going anywhere since they are still in my outbox not my sent box. (scratches head)
