5mm shaft?

Hi all, I'm trying to use a planetary gear reducer with my ezstruder, but the drive shaft from the gearbox is an M8 bolt. Since the ezstruder needs a 5mm shaft, I'm looking for a source, but the best I can find so far is a 5mm drill blank, which is a little pricey. Thoughts?

Did you check out McMaster Carr, MSC, and Grainger?

You ought to ask arround. One of your friends has to work at a machine shop.

Your other option would be to design one and have shapeways make it out of metal for you.

The one I was looking at is from MSC, but yeah I should definitely see if someone around here could fab one.

Find a junked inkjet printer. They have hardened steel rods for the carriage to slide on. You will have to cut it, and you may have to turn it down, but it's free material.

Well, heck if you have a lathe just get an old bolt and turn it down.
