Extruder stepper motor does not work - why?

Post by KMENilsson »

Hi,

Im setting up my IndigogoPerk-RostockMax (Yes very late!:)). Its the first time I touch a 3D printer and all that comes with it...

Everything in the setup/calibration process (all movements of the delta arm etc) has worked good so far (updated Firmware to RepetierMAX 0.80 (and set what I think is correct settings in the configuration as I have a RAMBO 1.0) but:

I cannot get the extruder stepper motor to work. It is not moving when jogged (in Repetier-Host Mac 0.53) just "vibrating"... What can be wrong??

If I change the extruder motor connector to one of the XYZ-motor outputs it works as good as the other motors.

Is it a hardware problem with the board or only a configuration that I have missed? Or just me being a dumb user missing something obvious in the GUI? (I've tried to use the second extruder output, but I have likely done something wrong as nothing with the motor happens)

A small clip can be found at:

The following are my EEPROM settings:

And printer settings:

The attachment Screen Shot 2013-07-30 at 16.18.56 .png is no longer available

Thanks for anything getting me started to make my first prints!

/Markus

Do you have the hot end at the correct temperature for the filament you're trying to extrude?

Yes I have it up at SET temp (tried different temp settings; that all seems to work well). The motor are though driving the gears forward at all.

To me it seems to be a drive problem. If it is hardware or software I can't tell though...

(the reason for me to upgrade the firmware before even test printing was that I had the same problem also prior updating.)

Check your wiring to make sure it's correct.

Hi!

If I connect the extruder motor to one of the tower motor outputs it spins like a cat. So I think the wiring is correct.
If I plug in one of the tower motors into the extruder output it does not rotate...

Im quite stuck for the moment....

Thanks for your support so far!

Hi again!

After updating to Repetier-host MAC 0.56 it suddenly all seems to work :) No changes where made to the configuration file.... Just the SW update...

Cheers!

Most likely you had Dry Run mode set in repetier host, it's a checkbox at tho top, when it's set everything runs except the extruder, likely when you upgraded, it no longer remembered you had it set.

It will also do that if it can't read your thermistor to see the hot end temperature. If this ever happens again, look at the hot end temp. That messed me up before.
