Post by hobbit666 »

Is the smallest printrbot big enough to print all the parts I need for a Rostock MAX?

I have a Printrbot jr. and I thought about using it to reprap a larger printer. I think it just depends on how much time you want to spend making parts(that don't fit your print bed) modular enough to fasten together to get what you need. :)

What parts are you thinking of printing? Most of the frame is made of laser cut MDF/melamine. You could make the effector plate for mounting the hotend. I'm really not sure what else you could make from the Max design. Maybe the post mounts that attach to the top plates. The whole bottom compartment is all large pieces of lasercut MDF/melamine though, and of course the three tower rails. So most of it isn't an option. Actually, you could probably make the cheapskate rollers, or some derivative. Other Rostocks, yeah, sure. But you'll still be on the hook for the electronics, motors, wiring, endstops, bears, etc.

The kit SeeMeCNC sells is pretty amazing considering the printer you get for the cost.

EDIT: See you are in the UK, so I understand where the question is coming from, now. Shipping to Canada was bad enough - ended up being extra %50 of the cost.

:o For that much it makes transporting packages across the border to re-mail a viable option for some shady-people. I bet it's quicker too.

Yeah was just thinking build a cheap 3D Printer to play then use it to print what I need to build the Rostock MAX

Being in the UK cost is a big thing :) Got some modded dxf files for quote on the laser cut panels just waiting now. Was going to buy a E3D Hotend kit for it, and ebay for the rest and some electronics (Amazon for the Rambo)
