Every once and a while I get a spool that is wider than the spool holders and then I have to sit and watch the entire print because I Jerry rigged something together and it could fall over at any given moment and it often does... got a tip to try the non skid turntables and it works mint! No worries on width. I went with the 9 inch, note it can only hold 8 inch diameter. There is also a 12 inch version.
I placed mine on top of a mouse pad to ensure it didn't drag.

Great tip! I'll look into this when I move to a top mounted spool system for sure...
Re: Turn table spool holders
If you've got an old record player lying around, any vintage, working or not, that could be an excellent turntable as well.

Eric, you really need a turntable with a lip on the outside so that the spool can't slide off. The link that was given was a great choice and a goodEric wrote:If you've got an old record player lying around, any vintage, working or not, that could be an excellent turntable as well.

Re: Turn table spool holders
The peg in the middle should work as well as a lip on the edge to keep a spool on the platter. I've nothing against the product linked. But if you already have the solution in the junk pile...Eaglezsoar wrote:Eric, you really need a turntable with a lip on the outside so that the spool can't slide off. Seems like a pretty bulky and heavy solution, especially if you want to mount it to the top of the printer. Sometimes things cost you in currency other than cash.Eric wrote:The peg in the middle should work as well as a lip on the edge to keep a spool on the platter. I don't know what'd I'd do with only one turn table and a microphone. So, No, the printer can't have it.

Re: Turn table spool holders
That turntable would also be a good bearing for making your own spool holder.
