I just bought this thing!
Ok, so I shelled out $1200 for kit, filament, blah blah blah crap and stuff. I also had an excuse to get a new soldering station (...can I just ask right meow why she doesn't understand the difference between gun, iron, and station??? Dunno). This is gonna be (hey-look-it's-not-lower-case-woohoo-Oh!!!!! I'm screwed!!!)AWESOME. Shizzz ships tomorrow. I'm in over my head, but pretty sure I'll be ok. Yikes.

Re: I just bought this thing!
I have a plan that's novel for the alignment portion of the build...the uprights.
1. I'm going to level my build table. Use a bubble-doodle-do probably, but I'm still thinking of other options...you know, machine tools and...stuff...henceforth assume that that biatch is flat as Kansas. It's a glass build surface...purdy flat.
2. Use a Bob level string on each upright thing-amathing.
3. Match those mo-fo's to flat and BOOM, Encouragement!!
Um Yes no maybe?
OK Bye.

Great sense of humor. Looking forward to seeing some pictures come out of this thing.
I know that you are a little off, make sure the machine isn't!!!

Re: I just bought this thing!
Spirit levels do a decent job of helping you get setup. I wish I had an engineers/machinist level to be OCD with. A plum bob is too subjective over short distances for my sanity, I look forward to seeing how it works out for you though.

Eaglezsoar-
My GF has 8 cats (they're only mine when they behave, otherwise they're hers). I design toys for a living, Hasbro Mattel Estes etc. I have a pretty serious machine shop in my basement and I drink too much. Of course I'm a little off...Oh and I spend about $25 a day on bird seed. Quite the habit. Gonna have to shift some of that budget to filament soon!
Binky-
You really think the plum bob idea is crap? I can't think of a better way to get things 'normal' relative to the build surface.
I think I need to stop looking at this thing as a toy and more like a CNC machine...hmmmm

Re: I just bought this thing!
Not a crap idea, I just think my skill with that tool is relatively crap. If the object is tall enough I'm fine with a plum bob, but I just have more confidence I'm not affecting the result with a spirit level (or a few) and steel square on small stuff.
Re: I just bought this thing!
Its fine to look at it as a toy, it mostly is, and it sounds like your going to be making toys with it anyway, I just think that your a little overwhelming to most people here, the norm isnt quite so enthusiastic or talkative as you are, and Ive yet to see anyone use quite so many made up adjectives in one sentence here....

You have to admit that this is entertaining, for all parties. I'm only ridiculous because I'm (*^$ing awesome.
Re: I just bought this thing!
With the amount of plastic fumes we all huff on a regular basis, how normal could we possibly be?
Welcome to the awesome!

Have fun with your corn juice PLA stuff...I'll get there soon but for now I'm going ABS and Nylon. Then, polycarbonate... I hate corn, it gets stuck in my teeth. Yep.
Re: I just bought this thing!
Hey, PLA is cool too.... and I print with nylon every once and a while, that stuffs pretty cool....
Re: I just bought this thing!
also, my prints dont curl when unevenly cooled

So Binky, am I supposed to dive into my belly button? Tell Lovecraft to help me with wiring...
Re: I just bing this thought!
This thread has a 320% higher noise to signal ratio than any other build log so far. Well done, sir!

Unpacking! I smell like burnt wood, oh well. The lady will get over it.
Peeling tape is like an exercise in anger management...
I've found it's easier to pop the parts out, and then get the stuff off.
Let the party begin!

The painstakingly slow task of uncovering all of the laser cut parts stage, good luck with boredom and frustration of it not being done faster...
Re: I just bought this thing!
You'll need to clean the edges of your parts if you want that smell to go away anytime soon.

Dear SeemeCNC...
I believe in my heart's heart that you wonderful people go through a significant amount of masking tape.
Oh, my melamine's chipping around the corners, making me grumpy.
That is all.

Dear Doc:
When feeling grumpy take a chill pill, kick the dog or cat until you feel better
then get back to work on the Rostock so we can enjoy your pictures and great
notations.

Re: I just bought this thing!
That makes me feel better, except the chipped melamine. I want her to be so sessy...Ok now we'll just call those chips "character." Meh.
By the way, I'm not gonna sand the edges, I'm gonna veneer them with Tiger Maple. Yeah, baby!
