Making 3mm filament into 1.75mm?

Post by BlindDevil »

I have about a half dozen spools of 3mm ABS and PLA that i can't use in my current machine.
Is there a off the shelf machine that can convert or is that too much trouble?

woops: switched the title around.

I'd try to trade it with friends or sell it to a forum member. The do it yourself filament machines that I've seen don't make very nice filament. They're really only suited to recycling material that would otherwise be waste instead of converting filament that doesn't have anything wrong with it.

This would also be easier if you were going the other direction... Extruding 3mm through a 1.75 nozzle wouldn't be as bad as the other way around because you'd probably have to grind it up to feed it into the machine.

I'd try converting them into money before I tried converting them to a different diameter.

Offer them for sale in the Seeme's List category on this forum. A lot of the members here use 3mm filament.
You can also offer to trade them for a like quantity of 1.75mm filament.
