Newb from NC

Post by Redqueen »

Hi all,

Just got my Orion unboxed and have begun the addiction. Looking forward to talking with you all and learning a bunch.

Cheers,
Mike

Welcome to the Forum!
The Orion is new to us also so perhaps you can teach us a few things about it.
Happy Printing!

Thanks! I have a lot to learn. This is my first foray into 3d Printing.

The Orion is really nice out of the box, but I really wish there were more... well any really... documentation on how to operate the thing. I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how to calibrate the thing.

There are subtle differences between the Orion and the Rostock Max aside from the fact that the Orion is smaller. The calibration section of the Rostock Max should be of a help to you. The link is here:

Done and very helpful! Thanks. I got moving in the right direction. The print bed is now much more level and the first layer is going down well.

Just got done printing one of the planetarys gears from thingiverse as a test and it actully came out okay. More work to be done.

I appreciate the links... I'm saving them for future reference.

Well.... from what I understood the top plate isn't attached for transport, so if that isn't placed back exactly the same as when the calibrated the orion, it could easily be slightly off in some ways.

Top plate was on and it probably was calibrated when it was shipped, but it also arrived with a hole in the side. Apparently it took a pretty big hit on the trip since there was a hole in the side and the inner fiberboard protection was cracked all the way through. Looks like somebody nicked it with a forklift or something. The machine was in tact and fine, but it probably did get jostled quite a bit.

Its getting better, and the noob behind the wheel is learning. The machine is leveled now and the prints are coming out better.

Thanks for the warm welcome and help! :D

Doesn't surprise me, I've heard stories of UPS breaking an anvil during shipping....

Where about in NC?

I'm in Raleigh and am in the middle of my Rostock Max build.
