Print Speeds
Out of curiosity, and for a perspective of how my printer is operating now, what are you guys using as an "acceptable" print speed? Obviously the faster the better, but quality must still be maintained, and layer size has a huge impact on speed. For instance, I'm still dialing in my Rostock to where I'm getting happy with the prints for various materials but with the UM, I can run 60+ mm/s at .2 layer heights, faster at .1 and lower if I so choose, usually 60 mm/s is fine by me. It seems like the Rostock likes to stay at around 40 mm/s or lower at .2 layer heights. Is this what you guys are experiencing? Particularly interested in the speeds the users with a Steve's Extruder are printing at, but welcoming all results. Thanks in advance!

what are your jerk and accel settings at?
Someone with 5000 accel and 100 jerk is going to be printing much faster than someone with 50 and 1.
Material also plays a big part in speed potential, as does hot end.
I have an E3D end and am currently using a .6mm nozzle with trimmer line.
My jerk is at 20, accel is 1500.
I can comfortably print at 50-60mm/s @ 265C
I've gotten up to 75 with decent results by bumping temp to 275C
With my .4 nozzle I can pretty much double those speeds.
ABS and PLA are totally different...
The best way to actually compare your machine is to start with a specific filament, hotend, and print, and then have other people print it with that same setup and post their results.
Otherwise, your "comparison" is pretty meaningless...

True. I guess I was mostly looking at PLA and ABS. I'll fine tune for the other materials. That's good to know though, about your nylon speeds and what the Jerk/Accel settings can get bumped up to. I have the E3D and a Steve's Extruder, but like I said, I'm just trying to get a feel for what's "standard" for Rostocks.

Have you had any success working with the manufacturer of the Trimmer Line as we discussed before?

Layer adhesion with nylon is such that .45mm layers are just fine for my purposes, so I've halved my print times even though my print speeds decreased a bit.
I'm having .8mm and a 1.0mm nozzles made to try out as well.
Still working with CM for nylon, but I've got some other related things that are just about to launch (my partner just recently joined the forum and built his Max). We'll post details soon.

Print speed can be a red herring. With an object that has lots of turns, the accel/jerk settings become more important and the "print speed" becomes less important. There are people who claim their printers can do "200 mm/sec!" but if their jerk and accel were maxed out they'd either produce awful prints or break something. If you are printing something small and the accel/jerk prevents the effector from ever exceeding 40mm/sec, you can have the print speed at 50 or 500 and it won't matter.
