Strange Print Behavior After Firmware Update

I am trying to print a longer filament spool rod since I now need to accommodate a wider roll. I thought this would be a simple task since I printed my original MAX spool rods before I even had the printer dialed in. Unfortunately when I try to print a longer version of the original spool rod, slicer refuses to give me three solid perimeters as before and only gives me two with that useless "sputter sputter" in between. I have attached a pic showing the original which was so well done I used a screwdriver for leverage to break it ( see the deformed inner ring) and the recent rod that I was able to break with one hand. Same filament on both (SeeMeCNC) and both were printed at 100% inflll.

I just wanted to mention the first "better" print was done before I dialed in my extrusion multiplier by doing the thin wall cube test.
After that test I had changed my multiplier to .95.
Also I am still using the .5mm stock nozzle.

You title says you changed your firmware. If so, from what version to what version? I've noticed the motor currents are lower in the SeeMeCnc .83 version than the .80 version and that caused some problems for me.

I hate that "useless sputter sputter" What slicer are you uusing I've had better luck with Kisslicer. I set the perimeters for more than neccesary, like you want three to make the wall, I would set it for 10. Then look at the toolpath, you will see any tiny moves and be able to try slice again until you get what you like.

You title says you changed your firmware. If so, from what version to what version? I've noticed the motor currents are lower in the SeeMeCnc .83 version than the .80 version and that caused some problems for me.

I am not sure what I was on. I purchased the machine in April and used the latest at the time. My current firmware is the latest as of 12-1-2013

Has your filament been sitting out since April? Perhaps it's absorbed a ton of moisture leading to print problems. I saw this with some Green ABS from SeeMeCnc that I left hooked up to the printer for several weeks -- prints got progressively worse. Changing to a new roll of filament fixed the problem.

I am using Slic3r, but am not sure why it uses the "sputter sputter". Maybe the part is too small for 4 perimeters but too large for 3 so the printer is trying to compensate with the "sputter sputter".

I am sure it is not the filament, my other larger prints are great. It just seems that slicer cannot decide what to do in between the inner and outer layers.

I would give one of the other slicers a try-Kisslicer or Cura, if nothing else you will have more information to go on. If it does the same thing in a different slicer maybe it's the extrusion width? Just a guess.

I think the "Detect thin walls" option controls this.
