Very low voltage for hot end power

Post by McSlappy »

I read these two posts:

http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=2271 (The problem was the 5A nano fuse)

http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... end#p20481 (The problem was a blown heater cartridge)

They were very similar to my problem - I am getting no heating on the hot end. I just installed a new 40w heater cartridge since the stock one started smoking an died (in a very similar fashion to this, minus the melting PEEK: http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... nd+on+fire) but still no heating is happening. The thermistor seems to function correctly since it's been giving me the same idle temperatures as the build plate all day.

I noticed in one of the posts that there was mention of the red light near Heat 0 that is supposed to turn on. It does not turn on. The build platform light turns on, but not the hot end.

Any thoughts?

EDIT*
I'm getting 0.03 volts over the Heat 0 when turned on.
The fan doesnt seem to run either. 0 volts over it's connectors when turned on.
I loved my Rostock so much I now sell them in Oz :)

If the LED under the Heat 0 does not come on when the Hotend attached to Heat 0 recieves a signal to turn on, it usually indicates a failure on the Rambo board.
I'm sorry to tell you that because it means you will have to get the board repaired or replaced. If you contact Ultimaker they will probably repair this card for you.
They are the manufacturers of the card. I don't know how long you have owned this card but it is possible that it is under warranty.
Before we go any further there are small fuses on the card (two of them) that fit into small sockets. You should pull out these fuses and check continuity of the fuse.
It is possible one of them is burned out. They can be replaced with the original 5 amp or you can put 10 fuses in there.
The part numbers from Digikey or Mouser are:

The original 5A fuse is
LittleFuse 0451005.NRL

The 10A version is
LittleFuse 0451010.NRL

They're both ~$1.50-$2 a piece in small quantities.

Oh. I was afraid of this... I will check fuses now.... Actually it looks like one of them has blown, the one closest to the power. Hopefully this means I can replace and soldier on? I'm out to find some fuses. I read someone say that 10A is a better choice - thoughts?

I would use the 10 amp but they do not solder on. They plug into the little sockets.
Buy a couple of spares too, you will likely need them and they are cheaper because you
don't have to pay shipping each time. Use either Digikey or Mouser because they are an
uncommon fuse and it is unlikely you will find them in a local shop. After re-reading what
you wrote, you meant to solider on not solder on. My mistake. It is a high probability that
once you change the fuse the card will be fine.

Looks like RS online has them as well with free shipping - unlike the $34 shipping of DigiKey.
