Just got my Orion printer today and really excited to jump into 3D printing. Unfortunately I ran into a snag with one of the stepper motors not wanting to return to the home position. Does anyone know of a thread that can help me out?
Well, first thing I'd suggest is to open the electronics bay and check that a connector hasn't come loose from the controller. If all looks well there, you could try swapping the bad axis for a good one and see if the problem moves with the swap. If so, it could be a cable or the stepper. If it remains on that axis, it might be the controller. Also check the end stops and see if any of the switches look stuck or damaged.
Another quick test you can do from Repetier Host is to use the Manual Control tab and in the GCode field, type M119 and hit Enter. Make sure the carriages are not all the way up in contact with the switches before you do it. You should see this as the output in the Log window: x_max:L y_max:L z_max:L
The L on each axis means the end stop is not depressed. If you see an H anywhere in that output, that axis has an end stop issue.
SeeMeCNC runs each Orion before they get shipped, so I would also assume that there's a wire that fell off in shipping. Shipping shouldn't have been that rough though since you're no more than 2 hours away...
Check the M119 commands like ToyGuy said. If you need instructions for this, check out the manual for the original Rostock. It's one of the first checks when you turn on a new machine.
Thank you both Jimustanguitar and Toyguy for the help. It looks like something is wrong with the end stop switch for the Y motor carriage. I should be able to determine if it is the connection or the switch itself once I figure out where my multimeter has been placed. Sock gnomes have expanded into new territories.
