Alternative platform/carriage?

Post by dpmacri »

I'm wanting to mount a second hot-end on my RMAX. I have two of the SeeMeCNC hot-ends and one E3D V5 (which is what I have on the machine right now) and I'm "expecting" a second E3D for Christmas :-D. Ideally I'd like to mount the two E3D's and I'd *like* for them to not be below the platform. But I don't believe it will be possible to have them fit through the opening in any reasonable way and still be above the platform. So I'm wondering: Has anyone considered building a different platform with a larger center opening? Again, I only have one E3D at the moment but am wondering what it will take to get two mounted in the *best* way possible.

If you're any good a OpenSCAD you can find the original Rostock (or Rostock Mini (they are the same)) platform and modify it yourself.

http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=2597 this was an interesting thread. It would work nicely if you don't mind swapping to Xanron's Magnetic arms. its for an E3D and SeeMe

Thanks! I'm not switching arms, but maybe I'll start with that :-)

E3D is producing a hot end with support for up to four nozzles called "The Kraken". If the E3D guys can get me a .stl model of the new hot end (I already asked) I can upgrade my existing E3D mount to work with it.

Sanjay from E3D here!

Here is a drawing of the top face of the Kraken. (Where the filament bowden tubes and the water inlets enter)

The outermost 4 holes at the corners are M3 mouting holes.

The innermost 2 holes are water inlet/outlet.

The other 4 are the filament inlets.

I'm not going to release the full dimensions/open-source drawings for the Kraken until they are shipping, I know that's a bit lame but there are people who are simply copying E3D products now, and I need to be careful how I handle disclosure.

Cheers,
Sanjay

I'll agree not to disclose if you want. Also, when are these going to be sold by the Filastruder people? I really want one but ordering from the UK is like a slow boat from China.
