This thing is getting pretty popular, it just made an appearance on the Seemecnc facebook! Cope you should post your changes so people don't use a unimproved model.

How could the Orion be modded to have the spool holder on top and this thing downsized? Anyone up to try it?

I have my spool top mounted on my Orion, there is a post about it in that forum. Note it was easier for me since I had a pre-production that had screw holes for a top mount, most others would need to drill holes. SeeMeCNC posted the design files for the top mount on their orion github site.

I have a very easy idea for an ORION "enclosure".
The "prototype" is on my printer that's currently running.

With an ambient temperature of 20C, temperature inside the "enclosure' is around ~30C. I think that'll help with the part cool-down and hopefully prevent some ABS layer separation as it cools.

I'll try to clean up the prototype a bit going into the weekend and I'll make a post about it.

I've been slammed lately with the holidays, outside print jobs (including a massive one that I'll post pics of soon), prepping for http://www.3dprinterworldexpo.com/page. ... ch=5120_94, on top of my normal day job.

Haven't been active much, but I'll catch up with the forum activities soon...

the orion is like a round triangle shape while the max is a circle at the base, right?

true, but this mounts to the arms using the 120deg angles. it should work, if not the idea should work and need to be scaled down a bit. but like i said i dont have one so i dont want to say for sure. from the pictures on the seemecnc website it should work.

finished my latch today

the hinge axis are 6 inches, print 4 square pins, 6 round pins, 3 arms, 4 ea front and back latch. i would scale the pins x.99 or x.98.

the color change is kind of lame, but my clear t-glase was boning up. green printed way better!

One more time, Damn good job! This is something that could be made into a kit and sold for profit...
There are so many print hours in it though.....

it was a little over 1 roll of pla. if we think of it in those terms it doesn't sound that long :) I've printed about 6 rolls since i started printing in September not counting this. this print (besides the latch) doesn't require anything fine in detail so a .7 nozzle would do this in no time.

I've taken my heat bed out with no issues. You could always add more doors if you want. To adjust end stops I have knobs installed so I can adjust by hand.

I want to print this enclosure (bad!), but I can't open/modify .sldprnt files. Can you possibly post the joint file in .stl format?
Thanks!

Did Cope end up posting his changes/improvements to this somewhere? I'd like to see what he did before I print a version of this.

not that ive seen :( ive been using these since this post started with no issue printed as is. only issue that i saw that could be improved upon is support where the screws go through into the wood. because not everyone would put screws in the same place i left that up who ever wants/needs to put them in.

How did you print the joints? Specifically, how did you lay them out on the print bed....horizontal or vertical? Just looking for the best way to print them.
