Peeling Off the Glass

Post by grimmindustries »

Hello all,
I've just started printing and I'm having trouble with the material staying on the build plate. Small objects are no problem, so I moved to something slightly larger. The object base is 3" by 2" and the corners keep peeling up. I've tried recalibrating but it still does it.
I'm using Blue ABS, nozzle at 215 degrees and build plate at 60 degrees. I'm also using unscented hairspray on the plate.

Please help,
Ron

1. Make some ABS juice.
2. Paint the area on the plate with a /thin/ coat of ABS juice.
3. Raise bed temp to 90 degrees for ABS.

I even run my build plate at 100 deg C. Make sure to keep any breezes away from the build space also, I put a temporary screen around my printer when I'm printing anything larger than about 2x2 just to keep things from cooling too fast (that's what causes the curling)...

I would raise the temperature of the bed to around 90C In Slic3r there is a setting for brim, I would set that at around 6mm this will give you an additional 6mm of material attached
to the part all the way around to help adhere the part to the bed. ABS has a bad tendency to warp, the larger the part the more it will try to warp. If you design you own parts in a
Cad program, you can add round circles in the corners to aid in adhesion. These circles are called Mouse Ears. Search the forum for ABS Warp probably in the Rostock Max sub forum
and you should get a lot of hits because this problem is so common.

Thanks everyone. I'll try raising the bed temp, then I'll try the ABS juice.

+1000 for the brim. I have been using that on large parts lately and have not had a curl since I have started with it. I will use around a 3mm brim or larger depending on the width and height of the part. Biggest I have printed was a 6"' diameter part and used a 5mm brim
.

I like these school glue sticks. The glue costs next to nothing, doesn't leave any odor on the print surface or the bottom of the part, and washes off in water. All you need is a very thin coating.

I used to use AquaNet, and it worked great, but it also left a thin coating on everything near the printer.
