.SVG To Printable Part

Does anyone have an easy route for taking a .svg and extruding it into a part?

I actually went ahead and installed this and it worked.

From there it can be exported and printed, or exported to the file formats in Openscad. Very useful for users who want simpler 2d designs

looks like blender can also open these .svg and convert them to .stl

I have done some converting of scroll saw patterns to stl. Most of what I did was scan, open in inkspace, "fill" the pattern, export the svg, import into blender and extrude. The tricky thing was I needed precise dimensions and it took awhile to figure out the size conversions from one software to another. And then blender changed things...

I also used the openscad plugin mentioned above and it worked quite well, I think I used it to make some of the parts for my Orion top mount.

For one I used PLA. Spent a lot of time tramming the bed. One thing Makerware got right is rafts and so for most of the large pieces I used rafts. And a big dose of trial and error (that clock was close to a one year project that I started even before I had a printer).

I have never used a raft but then I usually don't print parts that large. I'll have to give the raft a try.
Again, great job on the clock. When I first saw the picture I was shocked that parts of it came from a 3D printer.
