alright so i got both exturders moving, i am having issues when i switch to the second extruder with the displayed temp... it is showing 74 degrees when it should read 20 like the 1st extruder. they both are identical, i have totally switched wiring and it reads the correct temp so the wiring is good, the thermistor is good, i think i am missing something configuration wise now. i am running newest firmware, i did not have to change heat_1 to pin 7 in the pins.h it was already set.

bubbasnow, I am at about the same point getting 2 heads on my Kraken working under Repetier and RAMBo. I had 2 SeeMeCNC hot ends working early last year but now running into what are probably config issues. I have a RAMBo v1.1 board. Here is how I have my hot ends and bed heaters and thermistors connected with their pin assignments in Pins.h:

Here's a little more oddness. I've noticed that the temp display line in RH shows a "false extruder" as shown in the red box in these screenshots. However, RH is configured for 2 extruders as is the firmware. Also, if I unplug thermistor 0, I see a nonsensical temp and similarly with thermistor 1 (as shown in these captures). That tells me the thermistors are configured to the proper pins as shown in my previous post.

I am converting back to get a single extruder working and of course it is not.

So, yesterday I wired up the second extruder, hot end and thermistor. They were all connected to the RAMBo. I made some prints with my normal firmware configuration with the hot end 0 just to verify all was ok. Then, I made a copy of the firmware source files to use to configure for double extruders. I modified this copy and uploaded it. I also made a new printer config in RH for the double extruder config. That way, I thought, I could fall back to my original single extruder setup easily. So of course, now it is not working for single extruder either. I see a good temp display in the status line (without the odd false extruder I saw in the previous post) but the hot end does not heat up. I did not touch any wiring.

So I then disconnected the 2nd extruder plugs from the RAMBo and get the same result. This is similar to what I saw when I sent a RAMBo back to Ultimachines thinking I'd blown a fan output just to have UM verify that all was well. Very odd!

2 steps back, 1/2 step forward...

So, perplexed, I thought "hmm, I should try replacing the heater and fan fuse (F3) in the event that it blew. I put in a new fuse and wa-la, I am back to operation on heater "0" (original configuration).

I have wired things so I can swap connectors from one hot end setup to another so I can now systematically test the setup for heater and thermistor "1". I have 4 more fuses so an experiment or two should be fine.

well i am glad the gremlins weren't just targeting me this weekend.... but this news is better than having to mail it to UM and have them say nothing is wrong and taking a week to do so.

And check that fuse!

I had a few minutes to try again with the new fuse. Stlll no joy but I didn't blow the fuse. But I also didn't try to power heater 1. Unfortunately, I have to get caught up on a lot of new orders I got this week (fly reel kits) - not a bad problem to have!

something with seemecnc's firmware is really fighting me on this dual extruder.

i went and used the configuration tool to build a fresh copy, hooked hotend1 to h0 heat pin and its thermistor to t0, hooked hotend 2 to h1 and its thermistor to t1. i can control them perfectly in RH. i need to do a line by line and import the exact dimensions into this new firmware and i should be cookin with gasoline this afternoon.

Hmm, I am using the .91 directly from Repetier and having problems. Could you post your Configuration.h please? I did not use the configuration tool - I've started a few times and get bored after 15 minutes of trying to figure not what's what. He does not use the same names in the tool as the #defines in the Configuration.h file for some things.

Also, what pins are you using for heater 1 and thermistor 1?

from default 7 -> 8 because it was stopping extuder 2 from heating.. heater_2_pin was also 7 so i think there is a conflict.

make sure the drive is enabled in configure.h also

I got most of my work done so I played around with the printer a bit more. I hooked the cabling to Hot End 1 to the Hot End 0 output to see if the wiring is an issue. Nope, the hot end heated up just fine in single extruder configuration.

So:

I know my wiring to both hot ends and thermistors is fine since each works just fine when connected to hot end 0 terminals on Rambo.

And, I also reconfigured repetier to tell it to use TEMP_1_PIN and HEATER_1_PIN for extruder 0. This is the cross test as they say. And it works fine.

Therefore, I CAN run either hot end in single extruder mode from HEATER_0_PIN and TEMP_0_PIN (Extruder 0 heat terminal on RAMBo) or I CAN run either hot end from HEATER_1_PIN and TEMP_1_PIN (Extruder 1 heat terminal on RAMBo) but I CAN NOT run with repeater configured for 2 hot ends/extruders. A head scratcher. This is the .91 release. I am going to try the newest .91.7 release I grabbed this morning.

mine was a fresh pull from the seemecnc git. it looks like the .91.7 has changed some var names in pins.h i dont know if that will help/hurt

I did a quick copy paste and now getting upload timeouts. Went back to original and also get timeouts

I see your heater 1 and 2 pins are different than mine but your wiring hookups is the same.

Going to sister in laws for dinner so I ran out of time. Will try again later.

Hmm. Why would the bed heater and thermistor be the same as heater 1? That doesn't make sense!

i think the UM rambo labeling and the RFW labeling arent exactly the same, what tipped me off was during the configuration tool... i about had a brain aneurysm

In looking again, I have heater and thermistor 1 configured to pins 7 and 1 so that is the same. Where do you have yor fan hooked up to use pin 8?

my peek fans i have wired to 12v directly, layer fan will go on fan0 because that is the one kisslicer will control with the M commands

kiss is having a tough time with slicing this, it doesnt pause to heat up the extruder when there is a change... maybe i dont have it configured right.

it looks like ill have to go back to slicer if i cannot get this to work. ;((((((((

Ok, I now have two operational extruders and hot ends. All it took was a blown fuse on RAMBo, a blown cartridge heater, several new gray hairs and a few hours of wasted time scratching my head.

I suspect there was a chain of events that started with a bad or blown heater cartridge on my second hot end. That may have occurred when the fuse blew or it blew the fuse. In any event, I was able to isolate it. Luckily I have 15 of these things that I bought last year cheap! A bit of soldering and my configuration worked just fine. Now to dial it in.

sweet cause i need some help with kisslicer...or should i just change back to slic3r?

KISS has pretty rudimentary dual extruder capability. It lets you use the 2nd extruder for the object, support and raft and that's about it. Slic3r lets you do a little more but I'm struggling with 1) getting first layer to stick (I always have this problem with Slic3r) and 2) getting it to honor/recognize my 2 extruder configuration.

i am having trouble with the temps of the off extruder, kiss wont wait for it to heat up and just tries to extrude with a cold...hot...end. am i missing some pre/post/extruder gcodes?

On the Material tab, try setting the Keep-Warm temperature to the same as the Main temperature.
