Any opinions on the touchless thermometers ?
I am approaching, albeit slowly, to where I can start my Calibration runs.
so, I need to purchase something. Or would the contact type be better?
Thanks!

The infrared thermometers will not work on hotends or heat beds because they will not work on reflective surfaces.neurascenic wrote:Any opinions on the touchless thermometers ?

For accurate readings you need the contact type and I recommend that the hotend is measured by disconnecting the bowden
and inserting the thermocouple into the hotend down to the nozzle.

Glad I got you in time. Amazon has a few meters that are less than 30 dollars, here is a link to one: http://www.amazon.com/AGPtek-Channel-Di ... uple+meterneurascenic wrote:Whew! Glad I asked... I was just about to hit the one click purchase option on amazon.

I had much better results unwinding the nozzle, slipping the thermocouple between it and the heat block and gently re-tightening the nozzle until it just pinched the thermocouple. Found that just shoving the lead down the filament tube led to very patchy results.

Acutally you can use IR pyrometers on heat beds. Just have to put a piece of black glass tape on the bed.If I recall black tape has emissivity of around 95 or so. Just get a descent one like a fluke that allows you to set the emissivity and you will get a very accurate reading.
